Hi, Joe

I don't think you'll find there is a terrifically good living to be made from the paranormal, unless you do what some more well-known investigators do and that is write about it. But even then, your target market is still relatively small and there is not a terrific amount to be made from it. Also, it really does help if you can put on your dustjackets that you have some qualification other than 'interest in' - Graham Wyley, for instance, was an engineer at NASA. Arthur C. Clarke has a science background (if I remember rightly), which does tend to make readers take their views more seriously. It doesn't seem like it, but you are so very close to finishing your education and I strongly urge you to do it now and get it out of the way. Then, in no time at all, you'll have a qualification under your belt and will be able to concentrate on your interest. It will also give your opinion and research more credibility. Like you, I've always had an interest in the paranormal. Mine was fired by personal experiences I've had since childhood. I got my first book on the subject when I was 12. It was written by Peter Underwood (then the President of the Ghost Club, the oldest known Club of this kind in the world). I then started writing to him, trying to persuade him to let me join, which he did eventually when I was 17. You might also contact the country's more 'official' research body, the SPR (Society for Psychical Research), which is based in London. Most people I know in this field have been/are members of that particular organisation, as well as doing their own thing. They've had many years experience and have dealt with most of the well-known cases since the 19th century. It is also a place to start really forming your ideas and opinions, as quite a bit of debate goes on with people you meet with like interests. One final word of advice: One thing I've learned over the years, is that this is a field littered with fakes and charlatans and you have to be very careful who you approach for help on the subject, especially as you are so young at the moment and are just starting out. I strongly urge you to take the well-established, well-respected organisation root initially, like the Ghost Club or the SPR, both of whom have close relationships with other groups worldwide - but do your studies first. It really will put you in a much stronger position and give you more choice for the future.
