Subject: video recorder

Can anyone explain why it is that my video recorder starts up by itself sometimes, it is plugged in at the time, but switched onto standby and yet rewinds, fast forwards and ejects, when noone is touching it and the remote is on top of the tv with noone near it, it even happened when I was in the bath one evening and noone was downstairs. Also a drawer opened one evening when noone was in the room.
