My grandma (a born natural skeptic if ever there was one) remebers when my grandfather died in the 50's. When the family got back from the funeral all the clocks in the house had stopped and never worked properly again. She has said that time played an important part in his life so maybe if those clocks were stopped from beyond the grave it was a way of telling her she needed to carry on with her life an accept his parting.
I would say I neither believe or disbelieve in ghosts myself but the use of manipulating time devices would seem very fitting for someone communicating from the afterlife. Maybe your relative wants to say goodbye by sending you a sign (the 2am time) that you would understand was from him.
I imagine the clocks will set themselves back to normal soon enough.
