Tax cuts for the richest americans is an unfortunate bit of propoganda that people like Leahy need you to fall prey to. Under Bush's tax cut over 35 million people fall off the tax roles altogether and another 3+million come off due to the ending of the double taxation of dividends. These people are not the "rich" they are the average wage earners like myself and I'll assume like you. The "rich" who pay the overwhelming majority of taxes in America get a smaller percentage back than any other group. Just for the sake of an example a person getting a 10% refund on their taxes will get a $100,000 refund if they payed $1 million in taxes. Now a person getting a 20% refund on their taxes would get $200 back if they would have paid $1000. I know that some people want to use the tax system to redistribute wealth and that is what it is when a person gets a $5000 refund when they only payed in $1200 and unless you live in a closet you know more than one person who gets such a refund. I actually get those kinds of refunds and like most people love getting something for free but I am not prepared to tell anyone that they have to pay more in taxes so I can get more of their money at the end of the year.

What has Leahy really accomplished for the farmer?

Have you been to ANWR? Have you seen pictures of the place in question? I have seen the pics and intend to take a trip up in the next year. I can tell you that the place in question is not as pristine as you want to beleive. I can also tell you that the space in question for the actual drilling is tiny. I can also tell you that the existing Alaskan pipeline is loved by the carribou which have thrived since it was installed. I can also tell you that it is safe and environmentally friendly and that there is the potential to get a quantity of oil from ANWR that we currently import from Saudi Arabia. I can also tell you that other means of getting energy is the oil in shale rock and there are estimates that we have enough to last over a thousand years. I can also tell you that Leahy has not done much in way of promoting serious alternative energy sources.

Does jack have the answers? I don't know. The question was what people thought of him, the answers were about the alleged accomplishments of Leahy.
