Subject: How much oil is spilled in Alaska each year?

Approximately 400 spills occur annually in the North Slope oil fields and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline (according to State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.) That's an average of more than one toxic spill every day.

Over 1.3 million gallons of diesel, crude oil and hydraulic oil spilled between 1996 and 2000. (according to State of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation.)

The question of if the Arctic National Wildlife Preserve is “pristine” or not is SUBJECTIVE, and IRRELEVEANT. It does not matter if it is a pretty place to visit or not. What matters is that we make intelligent decisions with the rich and irreplaceable resources that our nation is blessed to have.

WE CAN’T DRILL OUR WAY OUT OF OIL DEPENDENCE! Let’s face facts. There is a finite quantity of oil on this earth. Sure, drilling ANWAR will make a few billionaires even richer but it won’t decrease the price of gas, because it is a very small amount, compared to what is already on the world market. It won’t save you any money at the pump. What will save you money is when your car uses less fuel.
