Again, conservation is a good thing but the facts are there to show that higher MPG doesn't necessarily equate to less fuel usage or cost. As gas (or anything really) costs less either at the pump or because we need less, we have proven time and time again that we just drive more and use more. That isn't to say that I disagree with your assertion that we need to push conservation and a higher MPG.

I can get the details if you want but I remember last year yearing a stat on how the amount of oil that leaks into the ocean from the ocean floor naturally, rivals or surpasses the amount of oil spilled in our major oil spills to date. Sorry can't remember the exact data and honestly it isn't something worth fighting over but I thought I'd mention it.
