James you are way off base. Most of the gun deaths are within a family or close relationship situation. They tend to be murders of passion. The shooters are/were gun owners. They did not steal the gun or by it illegally. They simply took it off the wall, out of the dresser drawer or removed it from the gun case. The availability of the gun made the killing easy. It is the gun that kills.
