Subject: You An Expert On Earthquakes; Susi??

Your explanation about fault lines in an earthquake zone and what could happen is laughable. In the first place a fault line is not a singular proposition in a state liken to California. There are many fault lines that crisscross the state. The San Andreas Fault is the granddaddy of the faults in California. It begins in the Bodega Bay area, north of San Francisco and goes south for about 450 miles to the Indio area where it branches into several different faults. Anyone of these faults can activate independently and thus activate eventually the main fault nearby.
For further explanation of faults, I suggest you attain this book and do some research before giving a most unintelligent outburst of emotionalism.
Many other faults independent of the San Andreas can activate on their own. This includes the Haywood Fault near the San Jose, Berkeley, Oakland, San Leandro area of Northern California. The Inglewood Fault near Inglewood, West Los Angeles, Los Angeles International Airport, Santa Monica Area of Southern California. The Santa Suzanna-Simi Valley Fault Line which crosses Semi Valley, Santa Suzanna, West San Fernando Valley area. The Sylmar Fault Line which crosses near the town of San Fernando, Sylmar, Santa Clarita and into the mountains northward of this area. The Garlock Fault Line which crosses the desert region north of Palmdale-Lancaster-Rosamond-Mojave area which can set off a devasting earthquake in a metropolitian area liken to the Los Angeles area. The Hector Fault Line which was quite active on the night of October 17, 2000 which an earthquake hit in the desert region near Hector, Joshua Tree, Amboy and Palm Springs, California. This quake was felt as far north as Idaho, Nevada and the Las Vegas, Nevada area.

Still when you illustrate that it is not wise to build on a fault line, this is true. But devastation will still occur because fault lines honeycomb the whole region of California. Selected "P" waves known as "primary" shock waves can devastate a whole metropolitian region as far off as 200 miles. Have you ever experienced a major earthquake, Susi. What is your source of reference to dispute this highly acclaimed book which has been deemed as excellent by AMAZON.COM? Still what decernable evidence do you present that disputes high technological sources liken to Bureau of Land Mines, California Technological Institute (CAL-TECH) and other sources that give this book an excellent rating in Earth Sciences? I want to see your documenatation, forthcoming, Susi.
Still law enforcement will be hampered at a durational time of about a week or so if a devasting quake should hit a region liken to southern California with a population of 11 million to 22 million. It would be unwise to disarm whole populations when law enforcement is not capable to discern their duties when this situation or any other situation of emergency should and will arise.
Therefore this situation is well documented on Page 136 of this most enlightened book. I suggest you read this paragraph or better yet attain a copy of this book to further educate yourself before presenting a most futile rebuttal.

Leland
