The conservatives who are pushing for the reopening of the Champion land deal are doing the liberals in this state a big favor. Governor Dean, a conservative himself in many ways, made a deal with the NRA and many hunting and fishing groups regarding these lands. A few people did not like the deal, it appears. Those who fight the deal put the NRA, the sportsman groups and Governor-elect Douglas between a rock and a hard place. So what has really happened here is that the political conservatives who want to give the Champion lands to the few camp owners on that property are giving the liberal conservation groups the best Christmas present of all - a way to attack Douglas without even having to work at it. Thanks for your help!
