San Francisco is the area Pelosi represents. She represents a "politically correct" fringe that best befits much of the Democrat Party. In California there is another congressman who is a Democrat. His name is Congressman Joe Baca (D)-San Bernardino, California. He is very pro Second Amendment, consequently pro-gun. This runs counter to Pelosi and thus Baca and her on this issue concerning guns is at odds.
The Democrat Party must get back toward the center on many issues as I illustrated. If not, all good and well. It's their funeral.
President Bush won the 2000 election because states like West Virginia, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Louisana, Ohio and Albert Gore's homestate of Tennesse voted Bush because Gore went to far left on the gun issue. These above states were all Clinton-Gore states in the elections of 1992/1996. They are states that have high populations of gun owners. Gore's association with May 14, 2000; "Million Mom March" against guns costed him these states. The NRA registered many voters in these states that year.
Again if the Democrat Party wishes to commit political suicide once again, by all means let them do it. I welcome it on the other hand.
