Am I the first poster?
well, let's see. . .
My name is Annalee, I'm fifteen years old, And I write a LOT of science fiction and fantasy. I love J.R.R. Tolken, Garth Nix, and Brian Jaques.
My curent WIP (work in progress) is called The Knotted Ring. It's a fantasy short story about a person disappearing into a magical realm. I don't want to spoil the ending. It is very character driven. The first three paragraphs are included below.

"My story begins on the mountain. High above the road, where the sleepy sun lets yellow beams drift lazily through the leafy canopy to dapple the underbrush, and the air is fresh with the scent of loam and pine. Way up there, where human feet are strangers to the trails, and time itself stops to give beauty the right of way. These woods were my serene sanctuary from the bustling city, where I had the misfortune of residing.

Ah yes, the city. Where everything smells of soot and exhaust, and the buildings are so tall they block out all but the thinnest strips of sky. The only trees grow in planned rows along the sidewalk, and even those are too sickly to rear nature's fair head. Many moons ago, our neighborhood would have been considered suburbs; but then urban sprawl reached out it's poisonous tentacles and took a choking grip, drawing us into its folds to become forever part of the concrete jungle, utterly forgotten.

And so I take every chance presented to me to disappear into the deep green foliage of the mountain and dance with the wind. I imagine that I am in the woods of Middle-Earth, just outside the Shire, or in far away Athens dancing with Puck and being looked upon by fairies. I've come to the conclusion that Thoreau was very right: In wilderness is the preservation of the world. Or, at the very least, my sanity." --The Knotted Ring, (c) Annalee Flower-Horne, 2001
comments or suggestions? I'd appreciate it!
