Subject: Not singing in the rain

Why do they put the umbrella sticks in the middle of the umbrella? You always put the stick to one side of your head , resting on one shoulder , resulting in the other shouder getting wet?
Why don't they make them with handles to one side..and would they have to make Left handed and Right handed?
