Subject: Oddly though I was 'foolish'...

I didn't lock my car on Friday night. Not very unusual really but I was surprised to find that I had had a visit from a (very) small time criminal during the night. (Car is 15 years old and been unlocked most of its life, even in central London.)

The person stole a box of spanners, a red triangle and a very dirty old second hand coat (I'd paid £2.50p for it 2 years ago), they were awfully naughty and put a little 3-in-one oil on the dashboard (lovely shine) and broke an old shed key in the ignition. So sad really; if they'd knocked on the door I'd have given them a lift home.

I have locked my car now; I liked it better when I didn't.

No one was hurt and nothing much changed. Oddly though I was 'foolish' whilst the thief was 'to be expected'. I vote that we leave everything unlocked and keep no secrets. Am I too stupid for words?

The question is should one be obliged to lock things up or should the wrong doer be obliged not to do wrong?
