Subject: Religion as a fashionstatement

I was thinking about the state of wicca in this country and I realized something: Wicca (and other 'pagan' faiths ie: Buddhism, Hinduism, etc) has become a fashion statement.
If you think about it, how many teens have adopted wicca as their spiritual path? I know there are some who are serious (like myself and some others), but how many more of those teens have adopted wicca to 'scare their parents'(I also know a few of those!)?
I think it is sad that in this country religions and some of their ideals are considerd 'fashionable' rather than 'spiritual'. What I mean is the watering-down of many respectable eastern faiths. A good example is of Madonna, who is such a huge pop icon-she 'adopts' yoga and aspects of buddhism and such and flaunts it like it's a new handbag. I don't want to put anyones personal faith down, but I just get upset when someone declairs themself a buddhist, a hindu, or a wiccan, just because it is the 'in' thing to do. Tell me what you think, is faith becomeing a matter of fashion? Or is it maybe a way for the country to 'cope' with the growing numbers of followers of these 'different' religions?
