I have some other idea to chew on: Is America a Christian Nation?
I would have answered "NO!" right off the bat just like most of you, but now I would have to think about it first. Why this change of attitude? Well, it happend just yesterday, I was showing a classmate one of the flyers I have printed announcing when and where the gathering would be (Halloween, outside Campus Centre at noon), Well anyways, I was telling her how people keep ripping them down. Well, a guy standing next to us looked down at my flyer and pointed to the little graphic (it was an american flag with a pentacle where the stars should be) and he said: "THAT'S DISGRACEFUL" needless to say we had a bit of a shouting match. I could have handled it better but what I remember him yelling was "PEOPLE HAVE FOUGHT AND DIED FOR THIS COUNTRY..." and I retorted "AND MOST OF THEM HAPPEN TO BE WICCAN!" I think what he saw in that grpahic was not a picture of Americans being proud to be Pagan, but rather a symbol of contempt towards the USA. I don't think he even read the flyer...
That little incident made me feel like an alien, not just alientated, but like I'm not even a citizen of this country. I would have never said it before that day, but "America truly is a Christian nation."
(What I mean by this statement is that Christianity is the 'standard' religion in this country, and that is a sad, sad, concept. A concept which I feel should be eliminated)
