the real reason behind the Books first grade not shaping up as well as expected this year was obviously the defection of Cunningham to the Bulls. With the Bulls in strife player wise, Cunningham sensed an opportunity, rather similar to Andrew Johns going to Union, he saw it as a great challenge to lift the club up by their bootstraps.
To date I believe Cunningham has been the master buy of the year, even though the Bulls seem to have a plan to keep him in cotton wool by leaving him on the bench, obviously so he will be fresh for a late season charge by the Bulls. He seems certain to form a devestating front row combination with Shaun 'wheres my money' Walliss, and Shannon 'what day is it' Laverty.
Already he is the target of clubs for 2005, a three way tug of war has stated between the Brisbane Broncos, the new TNC club the Bulli Hotel Turtlenecks are eyeing him off, and there are rumours that the Books are considering approaching him to return to the ranks as their gatekeeper.
Browny- with Ryles, Hornby and others resigning, taking Cunningham on board would surely ring alarm bells at NRL headquarters regarding the dragons exceeding the cap, in reality he is out of your league.
