Date Posted: 05:08:54 03/19/04 Fri In response to your comments Nugget, I will give you an accurate appraisal of Port Kembla's Pre Season. Firstly as I am sure you are aware there has been a large turnover of players from last year, with the new players having varying skill level, age and playing background. This year the Port coaching staff have decided to go with a more structured style of play rather than the flamboyant "off the cuff" approach seen last year. For this to be successful alot of players have had to learn new habits and the trials have given us somewhere to practise this. In the Country cup we were in the end beaten convincingly. With at least 4 regular first graders out and no less than 6 players with no first grade experience, 17 Port players took on 20 West Belconnen players who were playing in their third trial of the pre season. We were in a position to win at half time until condition and poor decision making from players with no experince at that level gave out. A hell or a lot more positives than negatives came out of that game. In the trial with the Flegg due to poor weather conditions the skill level was restricted for both teams. We were pleased with the way we went with younger players improving on what has been practised in the off season. In the Gerringong trial they were in a very similar situation to the one we were in when playing the country cup a few weeks earlier. They were having their first trial and were without a lot of regular first graders. In regards to Lulia Lulia. Injury free, I expect him to spend some time in the Flegg Squad before seasons end. It is unfortunate for Berkeley that this season they do not have a first grade side for him to progress from the 18's to. But the fact of the matter is, and Nugget I am sure you will agree, is that Lulia has got some ability and playing him in reserve grade at Berkeley or any club for that matter would only inhibit his progress.
