It seems curious to me that adverts presumably aimed at mainly straight women rather than men or lesbians, i.e. perfume/fashion adverts, contain frequent images of lesbians-who are they aiming to appeal to?

I think this suggests that images of lesbian trists are still unusual and shocking to a large proportion of the general population despite acceptance constantly increasing, and thus are used by advertisers to increase product awareness and debate and therefore keep their product in peoples minds. In also seems this could be the case with the Madonna MTV kiss but in this instance she was aiming to attract attention to herself rather than a product.
