Subject: Colonel C.R. Earp reinterrement

Gentlemen and Your Ladies,

Feb 16th was a wet, cool day in Gilmer, Texas. These conditions did nothing to dampen the spirits of those gathered at the grave of Colonel Earp. When his remains were found, 1st Sgt. Ben Hatch, Sgt Tom Bennett, Pvt Barry Turnage, and myself fired three vollies in salute to the Colonel.

As of now, plans are to move the Colonel from the funeral home to the restored log cabin at 10:00 am Friday, April 25th. That cabin is 2 blocks east and 1 block south of the highway 154 and highway 271 intersection. This will end up being on the corner of south Silver street and west Harrison street, best I can tell from the map. There should be a fair amount of white canvas tents pitched in the lot next to the cabin.

At 9:00 am on Saturday, April 25th the Colonel will be transported to the courthouse, and the ceremony is slated for 10:00 am. The courthouse is west of highway 155/271, on highway 154 (also called Tyler street). The other streets that form the square are east Jefferson (runs east/west), and the north/south streets of Simpson and Davis.

We will break for lunch at 11:30 am, and reform close to the Hopewell cemetery which is 7 miles west of Gilmer, at 1:30 pm. I believe this is on highway 49, but we will all know for sure before then.

I will forward further details as they develope. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully, Your Obedient Servant,

Preston T. Furlow
Commander, R.E.Lee Bivouac
