Subject: Shed Antler "Helping Device"

Hey, guys, I've heard of various approaches to "helping" bucks shed their antlers during the shedding season (Here in Virginia, that begins around late January, through February and even into early March.), and I understand that the easiest and least risky approach to the animals is to put some cracked corn or similar attractant under a picnic table (the type with the attached bench seats), which requires the buck to try and get his head underneath the table, and he dislodges his already "loose" antlers in the process. All you have to do is stop by every week or so and look for any sheds that have been knocked off. Now, I also understand that there are other approaches which can be harmful to the deer, but this is supposed to be O.K. So I would like to ask you guys if anyone has experience with this or similar "contraptions" and your opinions. Is this O.K.? Is it ethical? I've never tried it so I'm interested in what experienced shed hunters think about it. I have thick skin so don't hesitate to say the idea stinks if you think so. Thanks!
