Couthen says, "It is unfortunate that all the Black Spires of the Elder God-Things are lost with Angust and the Chaos Cities. They can defend against such things, especially against the powers wielded by the King of Angust. They were so effectual, that later Chaos Lords geared them to rise when one of the King's names was spoken with heartfelt anger or hatred. Those wonderous, yet dark, things were one of the reasons the King had to attack Chaos Cities through treachery or force of arms and could not use magic against them."
