Being a naive freshman and all, I wanted to know if it was absolutely necessary to have backstage experince and still try for assistant directing. I'm interested, since that was the whole reason for me coming into drama. If you guys still need one, just answer back soon.

Well, unfortunately due to my slacking off until 2:03 am, I regret to inform you that the position has been disolved/filled. But I'm really glad to see that somebody actually cared about it.

I was hoping for a specialized Assistant Director who would do really do five things:

1. Lead the set crew
2. Develop set designs
3. Stage manage on production nights
4. Help with blocking and character development
5. Rehearsal prompt

... all of which is a huge, huge time commitment.

No one really stepped forward to do the whole job, but James "Ox" Chandler stepped forward to be our stage manager and set crew leader. The two of us together will develop the set design. James is a backstage veteran of ALL of our productions and was most recently the stage manager for A Christmas Carol. He's also come up with really good ideas - such as the lowering the tombstone and streetlight from the overhead battens AND he's volunteered for really crummy jobs like bringing our smelly mattress to the landfill (p.u.) His brother, Thomas, is also planning on getting time off from work and doing Set Crew.

As for helping with blocking and character development, and rehearsal prompting that job is still open. It does go under the less glorious Rehearsal Prompter job title - but is still a good way to break into working backstage and directing.

Crew application deadline is Wed 1/22. Crews will be announced the next day. I'm short on Props crew, and still don't have anyone who has given in an application for the Props Master or Publicist jobs.

Short question ... long answer.

There ya go.

Man, I was looking forward to that. Anyway, I didn't mean to ask so late in advance, but I just found out about it yesterday. But I do have another question... what the heck is the Odd Couple about?

hahaha...here's a description i stole from a site:

Neil Simon's beloved story about two divorced men who decide to share a New York apartment. Felix is fussy and fastidious to a fault. He proves that cleanliness is next to insanity. Oscar wreaks havoc on a tidy room with the speed and thoroughness of a tornado. An enduring and endearing play with the intelligence one usually misses in comedies.

Pretty odd... Where does the play take place? Is it just a day in their lives or is there a conflict? I never watched the movie, so you'll have to excuse my ignorance....

(from my upcoming auditions handout):

“The Odd Couple” is one of America's most beloved comedies, by arguably the most successful playwright in American history. The play spawned an extremely successful movie, sequel, and TV series. This play features two famous characters: the laidback and extremely sloppy Oscar Madison, and the uptight, neurotic and extremely neat Felix Unger. When Felix's wife tells him to leave and never come back, he moves in with Oscar, whose wife has told him to leave and never come back.

It all takes place in Oscar's apartment.

And it takes place in a few different days, broken down into scenes, which chart the course of their rocky relationship.

As Monty Burns would say ... "HI-larious!"

While I'm on a roll with questions, Mr. Gaudet... How bad did those cinematography quizes turn out for pd.4? I don't want to ruin my Tuesday, especially after the Bucs win.

No idea. I haven't graded 'em yet. Pd.5 was pretty lousy on average. I might do Pd.4 today, but then again I don't want to ruin my Monday, especially after that Bucs win : )

Woo hoo! First my hometown Patriots win their first SuperBowl, then the next year my new hometown Bucs go to their first! As a longtime Red Sox fan, I'm used to supporting teams without ever expecting them to win, so all of this championship winning is giving me a nosebleed.

So, um, Miss Nobody, who are you anyway?

Yep, I ust happened to be looking at the Wesley Chapel website, found this place, saw the assistant directing thing, and decided to ask. Anyway, I didn't want to sound dumb, so I just made up a name, but now I don't care. The Bucs won.. that's all that matters. I don't want to disappoint you, but I didn't expect that quiz to be so tricky. Oh well, I'll make it up somehow......
