Reconciled Heart
By Anna Copeland

Sara answered the phone; it was her friend Billy that lived on the fifth floor of her apartment building. "Hey Sara, how ya doing girl, We still going out tonight right? There's this great party we got to go to. Everyone will be there." Sara reluctantly said “no thanks, I'm not feeling well and would just like to spend the evening at home tonight." Billy said, "OK another time than.”

She hung up the phone and collapsed onto her couch thinking about Joe, Tall handsome dark eyes. They would see deeply through you, the sweetest gentlest man she had ever known. Sara was hoping Joe would call her. She was still very much in love with him, even though they had broken up; she knew he still loved her too. She wanted to get his attention; maybe then they could patch things up.

She sat there flipping through the channels on the TV, and couldn't find anything to watch, bored to death she decided to go out to this club that Joe sometimes hung out at. The Bartender asked her, "What can I get you maim?" "A rum and coke will be fine,” she replied, “make that a double." She sits twirling back and forth on her stool, sipping her drink anxiously waiting to see if Joe will show. Smoke filled the room, and there were couples standing around everywhere. Sara knew if Joe would give her another chance she would make more time for him. She swore she wouldn't put her work first anymore. Just then Joe walked in the door, but he had an older women with him. They went into the restaurant and sat down, luckily not to see Sara standing at the bar. Sara was so confused, who was this woman, she thought. How could he move on so quickly? The couple grabbed a table and Sara snuck out the door. She couldn't bear to watch.

While walking to her car she began to cry, it made it difficult to unlock the car door. She drove around for hours it seemed, wondering and feeling very confused. She was thinking of their good times they shared. Those fun filled picnics at the park, watching those late night movies, and the countless hours they'd spent talking, that is when their bond grew strong. She didn't want to believe it was over. She decided to go home and think about it some more and what she really needed was a pint of ice cream. That always helped in situations like this.

When she arrived home there were a dozens red roses waiting outside her door. She quickly carried them in, wondering whom they might be from. She opened them up to look for a card and there wasn't one. Wow...she was really intrigued. It couldn't have been Joe. He has moved on with another women. For the next three weeks Sara received a dozen long stem red roses, nearly everyday.

She had a newfound excitement, filled with wondrous joy. She was bound and determined to find out whom these were from. Now chocolates were accompanying them, She started to get nervous; the cards were filled with poetry of an undying love. Finally a Card with a note saying meet me at Le' Charelles restaurant at 8:00 PM. tonight. I have a big surprise for you. I wish you a Happy Valentine's Day. Still there was no signature. Sara knew she shouldn't go, but she just had to. Could it be Joe? She thought, no it couldn't be. Does she even know who this person is? She couldn't wait for the next six hours to pass waiting and wondering. She quickly ran and bought a new dress to wear and decided to take a friend with her. She asked her friend Billy to go with her just till she seen who it was, and to make sure it wasn't an ax murderer. He agreed.

Sara sat anxiously in her seat, all dressed up, looking fabulous. Her long blonde hair curled around her shoulders and those big brown eyes shining bright. She watched the door waiting to see if she might recognize who it might be. Just then Joe walked in with that older woman again. Sara was shocked that of all nights for her to meet someone anonymous Joe has to show up here with that older women again. Just then Joe spots Sara and quickly moves toward her. Sara is ready to jump out of her seat. “How dare he come over here, what nerve?” Joe says, “Hello Sara, I would like you to meet my mother,” Sara had a big lump in her throat and her jaw dropped, quickly picking it back up again, she realized what a complete full she was being.

“Hello Mrs. Scott, It's very nice to finally meet you, Joe has told me so much about you. “You can call me Mary,” she said. “I hope it was all good” replied Marry.” It was” said Sara. “I think it's important for us to get to know each other.” Sara agreed with a nod and giggled. “I thought you lived in California, why have you come here? Is something wrong?” Just then the waiter came to take their order, not even realizing what Joe was up to? What does he have up his sleeve? “I am here on business and for pleasure,” she replied. “But first I need to make an important call.” Joe said to the waiter we're not quite ready to order we would like some time out on the terrace. My mother went to make a call anyway. “That would be fine,” replied the waiter. “ Let me show you the way.”

It was a beautiful night, cool breeze blowing, the air felt crisp.
Sara was puzzled, but decided to ask. Joe a question, “did you send me the roses? “Yes, I did madam, did you like them?” “What is going on? Aren't we broke up?” Grabbing her hand gently, Joe quickly said, “I could never be away from you for long. The time made me realize something very important. I can't live without you. I need you in my life. I believe we can work out our differences. Anything is possible when two people love each other the way we do. You do still love me don't you?” “Of course I do Joe. I could never stop loving you.” “Great” Joe said. “There is something I must ask you, that is why my mother is here tonight, she wanted to meet you first.” Joe got down on one knee, the stars lit up the sky, the moon shining bright, a romantic night for a proposal. Joe began to speak, “Sara Jean Evens, I love you with all my heart and soul, you are everything to me, you inspire me to be the best I can be, You are the air, the sun, the moon and the stars. I like who I am when I'm with you. You bring out the best in me, and for that I thank you. I want to grow old with you, I want to make many fond memories together, Sara I want you to be my wife. I promise to make you as happy as you have made me. Sara sat with her face in her hands sobbing; she was overcome with joy. Not even realizing she didn't even answer him instead she jumped into his arms. Joe pulled away a little and said WELL…? She quickly said, “Yes, yes. I would love to be your wife. I will marry you” The happy couple decided to wed in Italy, what a beautiful place for a honeymoon. This was a Valentine's Day they would never forget.
