I am Jocelyn. Really. Not anything about the dogs or obsession with matchmaking (which, by the way, I thought was so clever--her love of dogs and matchmaking fit so perfectly with her control-freak personality because dogs were always agreeable to matchmaking--you just had to "leash them together"). The reason I relate to Jocelyn is because I am also a control freak. I always have to have things organized and done right. If I hadn't gotten married I probably would have ended up slightly eccentric like Jocelyn--with dusted light bulbs and hand washed glasses so they wouldn't get hard water spots. But luckily I did marry--a man who is most definitely NOT a control freak and who tempers my freakish tendencies by insisting at times that it really is okay to leave a mess in the kitchen so I can get a good night's sleep, and that all his electronics stuff really doesn't need to be organized in the drawers I've consigned it to.

I loved Grigg's thoughts about Jocelyn in the Epilogue after their trip to the World Fantasy Convention when he said "Give her time to relax, give her time to see what was needed, and Jocelyn would have the whole community in order. The matchmaking along could occupy her for years."
He seems to appreciate her for her quirkiness--and talents. I like that.

I also loved the descriptions and development of Sylvia and Daniel's relationship and family. Even though it was dysfunctional through most of the book, you could see that they had had a happy and loving life together--the love between Allegra and Daniel and Allegra and Sylvia--and finally between Sylvia and Daniel. They each have their faults . . . but we all do!

Allegra made me laugh because I know people just like her. People who live life so deeply and are so gifted because of their artistic emotions and vision--but they can also be so trying to live with! I especially liked the part that described her childhood anticipating Christmas when she'd get so emotional because she was worried she wouldn't like her presents--so by the time Christmas actually came her family was exhausted from having to deal with her hysterics but she was overjoyed with what she received.

Anyway, those are just a few initial thoughts. It was all beautifully done!
