I just went back and listened to Sister Beck's conference talk and skimmed the RS one.
I think they were both good talks, and I can't think what issues people might be having with them. The only thing I can think of (and this is more with the conference one than with the RS one) is that there's a lot of pressure. LDS women generally seem to feel a lot of pressure already---pressure to do so much, to be so much, to be perfect mothers, neighbors, service givers, crafters, cooks, etc. etc. etc. And her talk kind of seemed to emphasize a need for us to continue to be perfect. And that's difficult and scary and exhausting.
But I don't think she meant it that way. I don't think she meant to add to the pressure that she no doubt knows exist. I don't think she meant it that way because at the end, she said something like, "I have every confidence you can do it." And at the end of the RS one, she said something about how she really believes in and sustains all the sisters of the church.
So overall, the talks come across as very...I dunno...demanding? But also very full of hope. At least I think. Listening to the conference one, I felt a lot of pressure, and more than once I caught myself thinking, "Gosh! I can't do all that!!" But her words at the end kind of tempered that, and the quotes she had from President Hinckley in the RS talk also kind of calmed that down. So yeah, I dunno...pressure, but not over the top.
Overall, this conference I thought was good, but there were only two talks that really said something to me. Which is fine. I find that every conference is different. Like, last conference, it seemed like every single talk was written for me. And this conference, just two were for me. The others were nice and interesting and good, but two were mine. Just depends on what you need and when you need it, I guess. :)
