Emma and I have been semi-productive inside during these last few weeks of winter. In the last month she started taking regular naps in her crib (HOORAY!!!) so I now have all this time on my hands. It's nice. Here are some of the things we've been up to:
***Reading. Currently it's a re-read of Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Sigh. So sad, but how can you not love Tess?
***Writing. After a five-year hiatus, I've picked up some of the manuscripts I wrote at BYU. I signed up for an online class, not really for the lessons, but for the critiques. Now I just need to muster enough courage to actually submit something.
***Shopping. I made a new goal to NOT wear jeans everyday. So I went out and bought some new pants, because I'm kind of in-between sizes. And of course, new clothes are more fun. Thank you Banana Republic for having a sale. Oh yeah, Emma got a high chair too. She's still nursing, but I thought it would be good to practice sitting up, and she can hang out in it the 2 days a week I actually cook. Our next venture: bathing suits. (Our building has an indoor pool that opens in April).
***Playing with technology. We got a video camera for Christmas, and of course it's taken us 3+ months to figure out how to load them onto our computer and post them. Still a work in progress.
***Starting a blog. Here's the link: http://www.jesskern.blogspot.com/
I figure it's easier than keeping a journal, which I never do anyway.
***Rolling. Well, that's mostly a category Emma does on her own. She's mastered from back to tummy, but has yet to figure out the other way. So she gets stuck a lot. I think she needs a reset button like on the old-school Nintendo. Anybody else have one of those?
So that is what we have been up to. Responses to recent posts:
Emily--I'm so impressed with your gardening skills! Someday I want a garden. Maybe I'll try a pot on my patio. Recommend anything to plant?
Sarah--Congratulations! 3 boys--I'm impressed. Send us pictures!
Elisa--Thinking about you. Sad news, but I'm glad that you're moving forward. The best decisions can still be really hard. Give me a call if you ever want to talk--about anything. Emma goes to sleep around 8 and I'm usually up until 11ish. Hey, that goes for the rest of you, too.
Kiersten--Any luck finding the man of your dreams? Read any good books in the meantime?
Chiska--How are the job and housing issues? Hope you're enjoying the outdoors with Britt!
Christine--Welcome back! We so need to do lunch or dinner soon. Or tea! (Ever been to Alice's Tea Cup?) With the weather getting warmer it will be easier to come into the city with Emma.
Thinking of you all. Wish I had enough money to rent us a beach house so we could all hang out for a week.
Love
Jess
