When people have questions about Mormonism, why don't they, you know, ask a Mormon? Instead of asking ex-Mormons, or reading anti-Mormon literature?
Seriously, though I am just kind of posting this as a flabbergasted question, I really would like to know the answer. Why don't they ask Mormons? I belong to a message board where every once in a while, religious questions come up. Usually, it's just Christian vs. Non-Christian questions, but sometimes Mormonism gets brought up. Without fail, no one asks the Mormons. (And there are more than one of us, though not many.) They'll just speculate amongst themselves and say, "I know this is what they believe, because my co-worker, who used to be Mormon but isn't anymore, told me." Or, "I saw this in a book."
I spent the last half hour setting some things straight. Like, no, we don't believe that the more kids you have in this life, the better planet you'll get in the next. And no, for the last time, we don't practice polygamy, and those who do are not truly active members of the LDS church. And no, we don't believe that God had actual, physical sexual contact with Mary in order to conceieve Jesus Christ.
Seriously, why don't they ask a Mormon?
