Prologue: I'm sorry if this bores you. I guess for some reason I felt bothered enough to write in about this thing, and it is kind of interesting. I can see how this happened, they've gotten bombarded with emails, so they send out form responses. Only it's funny because...well, sorry if this bores you, but if you want you can read the correspondance below.

Here is the email they sent me (and I think it's pretty decent):

Dear Concerned Viewer:

We appreciate your taking the time to express your thoughts to Home Box
Office on our original series, Big Love. However, we respectfully
disagree with your interpretation of the show.

HBO and the producers took great care in the development and production
of Big Love to make sure that there was nothing in the series that was
in any way disrespectful of the LDS Church. We were equally careful
that the series did not distort or misrepresent the teachings or
practices of the Church. We actually screened the first three episodes
of the show for officers of LDS, and explicitly asked them to comment on
any instance in which they felt any aspect of the Mormon faith had been
misrepresented.

Further, the series in no way conflates polygamy with Mormonism. In
fact, the fictional Hendrickson family which lives in Salt Lake City
spends a good deal of their time hiding their lifestyle from the Mormon
community knowing full well that, if found out, they would be ostracized
both personally and professionally. If one follows the series further
into the season, this point is made even more emphatically.

Again, we appreciate your sharing your concerns on this matter with HBO,
and hope this adds some clarity to the issue.

~ Sincerely, HBO Consumer Affairs Department ~

Here is my response to their response (which will probably be deleted and never read):

Dear HBO Consumer Affairs:

Please, I'm asking you to read this next paragraph.

I didn't say anything about "Mormons" or "LDS" in my email. I didn't even mention the fact that the show is filmed in Salt Lake City or Utah. My email addressed concerns that had nothing to do with the religion of "mormonism". My concerns are with the abusive and oppressive nature of real polygamous relationships and the harm that is done by making these issues into a sitcom. Please, I'm asking you to read my original email below. You haven't even addressed my concern. It has NOTHING to do with "Mormons".

Thanks,
