Kiersten--I'm sorry you're dealing with such bad weather! I bet you can empathize a lot more with the pioneers now. :)

Okay, so I need to figure out some way to cheer you up since it's your first week back at school/work AND the snow is making your life miserable. Ummmm . . . ummm . . . well, Launa and I talked on Saturday about her creative writing class and what book she was going to have her students read this semester, and thought that the book "Big Fish" might be good. I haven't read it, but I LOVED the movie--so rich and beautiful and full of meaning--so I'm hoping the book is just as wonderful. Then we were talking about the book "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" which is also wonderful and beautiful and full of meaning. Launa got that book right after Matt died and she said it brought her so much comfort. I read it and enjoyed it as well--and NBC or one of the big networks did a TV movie of the story that aired a couple months ago. Anyway, as Launa and I were talking about all these great books we also talked about why we're so grateful that we can appreciate great literature/drama because of how it enriches our lives. I remember when I was at BYU and trying to figure out what to do with an English major and thought "maybe the economics majors and math majors have an easier time getting jobs, but I LOVE my major and live life at a deeper level because I can enjoy great literature." I think it's still true. And talking about books I've read is still a favorite pasttime that truly brings me joy. It makes me feel all warm and happy inside. :)

So, in my roundabout jumbled fashion, I think the point of my attempt to cheer you up is that we're so lucky that we love great literature (although, as a teacher of remedial students maybe you're sick of literature) . . .

Let me know if that's the wrong cheering up message and I'll work on another one. :)

Elisa
