I'm reading a really great book right now that I can't put down:
"These is my Words" by Nancy Turner
Jess, your girl students might like it, though there are 2 rape scenes that I skipped. It's about a frontiers woman settling in Arizona in the 1800's--written in diary form, historic fiction--it starts from her being a 15 year old, and through her life as she grows, settles between territories in Texas and Arizona, falls in love, becomes a mother, etc. There are cowboys, Indian wars, death, disease, romance, humor--most of all the woman is so inspiring that it makes me want to be a better, stronger woman. It is a really great story--very well written. Lot's of levels to be found.
IT IS SUCH A GREAT BOOK! I LOVE IT! Probably my favorite of the year.
I don't know about 9th grade though.
Chaim Potok is good for that grade.
I hope you guys are doing well--I'm getting bigger each day. My baby is kicking me all the time--and my clothes are rediculous. It is so awful and wonderful at the same time. My boobs are bigger! YIPPY! But, now I have a shelf stomach--and that isn't very comfortable when sitting. :-)
I only have about 10 more weeks left! Wowsers.
Miss you, and totally want to get together soon for lunch or something.
