The copying of the digital extras might indeed happen. But when I say "extras", I am more talking about physical things (the "packaging" that comes with the dvd) that is difficult to digitize. I don't exactly think that you would be able to digitize the "Black Escaflowne" action figure that came with the Escaflowne TV set ... ^^

>I think you and Dave have too many hardcore anime

I can see what you mean. However, you could say the same thing about Nike shoes. Why would someone pay $100 for a pair of shoes when they could get the same shoe for much cheaper (but without the swoosh)? If the anime companies can figure that one out, then anime will be in the same boat ...

Another analogy (not the greatest, of course) would be in the various card games (Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh, M:tG, ect). I could just get digital scans of the cards and then print them out, right? But I have a feeling that even when playing with friends, this wouldn't fly ....

I like the "collectors editions" just because they are cool ^^. Neat boxes, neat stuff that comes with the box. I can't understand why anybody *wouldn't* want the collector's editions.

You also don't always have to pay more (or at least too much more). For example, the Boogiepop Phantom DVD Set is listed at around $65.00 (includes all 4 DVDs). The Boogiepop Phantom Limited Edition Box Set costs $80.00 and includes the series as well as music cds, pencil boards, and other stuff.

If a group/company/whatever pays a licensing fee, then I really wouldn't consider them as pirates.

What I meant by "official" and "pirate" are the same things that most people probably think ^^.

Official releases: Companies who have paid the licensing fees and have been given permission to release the digital entertainment in the US.

Pirate releases: Anybody who doesn't pay the licencing fees. As it is today, most likely the pirates will continue to be the digisubbers who take it off of Japanese TV or people who take the entertainment right off of the official releases.
