I vote for a new forum and I'd like to emphasize Pasha's point that some people who don't like it won't be voting. People who dislike this forum the most won't be reading it right now. Any guess at the number of people who fall into that category would just be speculation, but it's something to keep in mind.

As for the alternatives you gave, I like animelyrics.com's forum except that it doesn't look like you can view the threads collapsed or post anonymously. Also, I didn't check out the posting/replying/editing process or user options because I didn't feel like registering. I don't see how HostBoard is any different from the majority of PHP boards out there. Is it because it's already configured and run by someone else? Well, it's decent except for the fairly big problem of not having threading.

One forum I like that might be good for us is Vegas Forum. You can see an example of it in use here. I guess it's written in PHP and SQL and I don't know how much work it would entail, but other than that it seems to meet all the requirements you've set. Only problems I can see are that it doesn't have a view all messages option and it doesn't automatically copy the text of the post you're replying to into your reply. But I suspect that at least the 2nd problem can be fixed, and maybe even the 1st problem.
