Thanks. That was educational.

To add my lame comments (yours were amusing not lame), note the abundance of maps hanging on shop walls. This may be due to Japan's lack of street names. In Japan, (last I heard) people don't simply give addresses for most houses. They have to draw maps.

Call me a stickler, but there is no concept of Heaven in Buddhism. In East Asia, many people have a hodgepodge of various religions, leading to an inconsistent mongrel.

Buddhism has "nirvana" (a state of inner peace) while Chinese mythology has Heaven (a cosmic realm in which benevolent ancestors live). Since everyone wants to reach inner peace, it's easy to mix that up with Heaven, and many modern East Asians do.

I think that "entering Buddha's nostril" is not supposed to be taken literally. :) In fact, it might have been intended as a test to see whether the listener would actually try the hole.

Anyone can enter the nostril of Buddha, Lao Tzu, or Confucius. You don't have to move your legs to do it. :) You have to move your mind.
