Well, I think the reason is the show is very addicting for most people after they watch an episode or two. So, assuming people get past the ugly artwork, they may very well sell a lot.

I usually try to be supportive of the anime industry here, but given the way they are mangling the show, I sincerely hope Initial D does bad. Given how well they think it is going to do, hopefully they will get the message that fans do not appreciate changing the show as much as they're doing. Luckily my fiance got the Initial D Japanese DVDs 'cause there's no way either of us would want to touch the American release with a 10 foot pole after what Tokyopop's done to it. ^O^
