Actually, I don't think Gasaraki is anything like a copy of Eva. Granted, they both have mecha. So does Bubblegum Crisis. Granted, they both have a girl with blue hair. So does Wolf's Rain.

On the other hand, Evangelion goes off the deep end with the Qaballah (what's the standard way of writing that in English anyway?) and Gasaraki goes off the deep end with kabuki theater. And the plot lines and character interactions seem significantly different to me. (I think Shinji could have used an enforced stint in the army so as to get some basic concept of socialization...)

Now, the series *I* consider a pathetic whitewashing of Eva is Dual -- basically the makers of Tenchi took the Tenchi harem-show formula, slapped it onto Eva, and put the mecha in high heels. @_@ I can't stand that show...
