Behind her lids, Paige saw only a reddened blackness, like dry blood. Her eyes fluttered, slowly opening against the heaviness she felt weighting them down. She gave up trying to look at her surroundings and closed them once more. Her mind was tired, so very tired, and she just wanted to sleep...
She sighed and tried to roll over, blond brows furrowing as a cold something kept her from her desired position for sleep. One of her hands groped along a metal surface, the cold thing beneath her, and encountered a cold fabric like...leather?
Her eyes snapped open and she desperately fought the enveloping darkness trying to cloud her mind with thoughts of comfortable sleep. Panic arose like a slap in the face, driving away the darkness. The blonde girl desperately struggled against the heavy leather straps binding her body to the metal table on which she had awoke. She finally fell back, crying in soft gasps. Once she relaxed, memories began to float before her eyes.
She had been following the group uncomfortabley, watching the various fights between the team members and trying to be useful. Feeling crestfallen at being ignored, she had wandered off into an alley, where she....well, something happened, anyway. ALl she remembered was a dark shape lunging towards her, a quick burst of panic, and then darkness.
She sifted further into her memories. Once she awoke, she was on this very table and there were white-coated doctors all around, their faces shrouded in gauze, as if they'd catch something from her if they allowed themselves to get too close. One approached and shot her with something, that left her feeling heavy-lidded and sleepy.
The only things after that brief memory were snatches of waking moments, of tubes and instruments all about. Her left hip and the back of her head ached horribly, and her arm was throbbing with all the needles that had been stuck in it. She shook her head and looked about. The room was a sterile white, with nothing anywhere but the metal table and her. No doors, windows, anything! Paige gulped and fought against the panic rising. Suddenly, there was a metallic click and she slid down to land shakily on her feet.
She stumbled forward and felt along the walls, looking for a door, window, camera, a crack, it didn't matter, she wanted out! The room was closing in, and Paige began to pant her breath, banging against the walls desperately. She wanted out, now! Out! Out! There had to be...
Paige clutched her head and fell to her knees, screaming in pain as agony blossomed through her head. Her body phased out into a hallway and she stumbled forward through the metal halls, her fingers shaking and bleeding form banging against the walls, and what appeared to be a not-long healed suturical wound had opened on her back and was bleeding as well. She didn't feel either. Her vision swam as she wandered down the halls, led by instinct alone.
Several times she was nearly caught, but her powers, as if acting with a mind of their own, had saved her by putting up a sudden illusion of a perfectly normal sterile metal hall. She finally emerged out into a starry night. The night air hit her like a slap, and she sobbed in relief as she broke into a run, stumbling over rocks and other small things on the ground, ducking past guards and search lights and finally, finally, into the blessed relief of a forest.
No, it wasn't a forest, but a small grove of trees surrounding a park. She stumbled as deep as possible into it, then collapsed against a tree. Panic drove her further. What if they found her? What else would they do? She fell to her knees and crawled into a few bushes, her fatigue from using so much of her power and from running flat out all the way here finally catching up with her. She fell into a grateful sleep, and remembered no more..
