Paige awoke to a strange, dulled panic throbbing between her temples. She burst from the bushes and stumbled against a tree. Something told her she needed to run, fast! The blonde girl wandered through the trees, squashing the panic as best she could, arms held tightly around herself. Her cerulean eyes darted nervously in the dark.
There was a slight rustle behind her.
She whirled around.
"What was that?" She asked noe one in particular in a shaky tenor voice. "Who's there? I..I'm armed!.."
Shaking, she moved faster.
The noise increased.
She kept moving faster and faster, but the sound kept following her, and getting louder. Suddenly, a light shone one a shrub a few feet from her ankles. Paige froze, trying to calm her sobbing breath.
"I heard something, over here, guys!" a male voice called.
Bumbling feet and angry mumbling was heard.
"How the hell'd that girl get away, anyways? The room was sealed..man, our asses're gonna be on a platter if we don't find her..."
Murmured agreements. Paige slowly, carefully moved forward, then gave up all cautiousness and shot out at a run, her thin legs taking her farther than one would think. There were shouts from behind her, glimpses of bobbing flashlights, angry shouting.
Paige stumbled out of the trees, the men not one yard behind her, reaching out...
Then, suddenly, a bat flitted through the air and landed on the one who had nearly caught her shirt. He screamed in terror and threw himself on the ground to try and dislodge the horrid creature. The darkness of the trees seemed to swallow another man and the third stood there shaking, mouth agape, impossibly wide eyes fixed on a glowing, wild-eyed Paige, her hair and clothes streaming from her body.
She yelled one word and the man's head literally exploded. ((I hope you don't mind, Mr.President ^_^;)) The glow faded slowly, leaving Paige dazed, swaying on her feet, but pressed with the desperate urge to flee, knowing that there would be others, that she had to get away.
A weird creature appeared in front of her, pointy and purple and floating, with hands, but no feet. Paige stared at it dazedly.
"What...do you want..."
It blinked at her in response and promptly disappeared ((hope you don't mind, Natsume)). Paige gave one last wondering glance at where it used to be and then fell onto her knees, then with a soft "pwoof", onto the dirt, dead unconscious.
