me 1st!! doesn't anyone want to post anymore? i'm going to give a little rundown on my family (and maybe rachel will pop in too). Then mike (or edie), jody, beth (and /or haley), joe, and mom can all post stuff too..I know there have been medical appointments, school schedules, job possibilities, family changes, or some such thing in each family branch, and no doubt john & johnette and phil have something going on we don't all know about. everyone spill! after that can have a nice discussion about ???? something else. i no longer want to discuss topics that bring anger but i'm sure there are discussions to be had. Or hey everyone could post a joke or something..hm. time for the big update now...i am now working part-time at hobby lobby learning to frame pictures which i enjoy part of the time and really makes me want to do something more creative in my life as well, and i'm selling books and toys etc on various sites on the net. i'm still working on getting that down as a business, even if only a part time one. right now i have about 20 cases of books all over my dining/living rooms that i'm selling for a woman here in town, and i just bought a very large assortment of home school books at a thrift store for $10 that should make me about $200 i think. I also enrolled at OSU Tulsa for this semester which will entail moving to Tulsa to go to school but I couldn't make the move yet so hopefully that will begin in january instead. i will have a bachelors of science in family and children's services in about 3 years if all goes well (and mike i bought a stack of computer related books recently that i hope to do some learning with on my own). my offspring are all busy as well. will is living in norman ok, and has been cooking for the olive garden there for about a year. He is also going to be a father in december to a baby boy who will be named paul stephen. the mom in all this moved to tennessee for family support so will is prob going to move there as well to be nearby. obviously this was not a planned event but i'm glad he is planning on parenting this baby (he can also use advice if anyone has some for him). he may go to school out there as well. ashley is going to culinary school at OSU okmulgee and doing very well. she's a finalist for a scholarship but has to participate in a cook-off with the other finalists this friday to see who gets the $$$. she's also still working at the italian restaurant Carrabbas in tulsa. and i'm going to be a mother-in-law as well. ashley is getting married to jimmy McIntosh, whom she went to 2nd grade with, on her birthday next march. jimmy is also a student at OSU studying engineering. he has a good sense of humor that is sort of dry and sarcastic so he fits right in with all of us(and he loves the cubbies/baseball/sports so he's great to have on a team of all women playing trivial pursuit). rachel is 17 now and a working person. she's 'customer service' at albertson's although she feels very underpaid, and has already got her sights on a desk job (actually help desk) at Sykes which pays almost $3 more an hour. She is also probably going to get her GED so she can go on to college with her classmates next year. whew!! i usually hate stuff like this and hate writing it almost as much but i think it's nice to know what's going on with everybody every now and then. i also think it's funny that when people write stuff like this it always sounds like everything is going well even when it's a baby out of wedlock or jobs that don't pay the rent and aren't really what you wanted to be doing. I feel i should dirty it up a little, add some of the sad, or frustrating details so you can see it's not all homogenized, but it's done now and going to stay that way. being me you all know it's not all pretty anyway, but i'm really not complaining. i love my kids, they are all smart and have good souls, and i am getting to spend quality time with part of my family on a regular basis and am happy to be working on pointing myself in directions that will keep me interested, productive, and participating in making my world a better place i hope. CIAO! next?

Ok I have to make this quick; pizza is calling my name.

I'm slightly depressed for no good reason (good way to start off, huh?); probably has something to do with my stupid thryoid swinging back and forth and making me feel like crap. Finally got some more pills so hopefully that will get better.

The divorce is still in progress. Well still not final anyway, I don't know about progress - my stupid lawyer took a month long vacation and Danny said no to just about everything on my list that I wanted from him (like for him to pay his half of a credit card we both used), so I don't know what's next. I talk to lawyer man tomorrow.

Work is going pretty well, not much new there except I'm learning lots of good stuff (the whole Adobe Creative Suite is awesome; I'm learning Illustrator now). And my boss is going to hire me soon I think, so I won't have to go through the stupid personnel place anymore.

Notice how everything is stupid? The stupid humidity here is making me cranky. And I'm hungry.

As you probably know, Haley's wedding is coming right up - are any of you people coming? We're still working on flowers and bridesmaid's dresses and all kinds of stuff. It's going to be a very interesting and untraditional wedding, and if you don't come you're going to miss out on a hecka good time. Criminy, I can't believe I said that.

Josh is in Colorado panning for gold with Danny at the moment. Actually Josh is probably sitting somewhere playing his gameboy and wishing he were somewhere else. School starts Thursday and hopefully he'll be going to the Alternative Center here - smaller classes will help with the anxiety thing and no homework will keep him from getting behind like he did last year. Unfortunately I won't know until Wednesday if he has a place there because apparently they got more kids than they thought they'd get and yadda yadda yadda, wait and see.

That's about it, except for one thing that I'll write more about later.

Things here are about the same as always. Jacob started school three weeks ago, he seems to be doing okay but it's always hard to tell with him until we see the report card. His summer was very short. Of his 8 weeks off, he spent a couple of weeks in Juarez Mexico rebuilding a church, then a week in Norman at Christian Leadership camp, then a week on vacation with the rest of us. It's been so long since we took a full week off all at the same time, that we don't remember the last time we did it. We take long weekends occasionally, but even then it's usually just two or three of us. Gretchen goes back to school in two weeks, Mike will drive her there. Mike's job is still aggravating him. His boss is the main cause of that. I don't think there's any solution for it except to change jobs or outlast the boss. Either way, it's getting into an unknown situation and that can be uncomfortable, too. My job is going well, so far. I'd say it's the best job I've ever had. I'm still having bad flashbacks to the last little slice of Hades I called gainful employment, but they're fewer between. The idea that I don't have to go to work on the weekend unless I want to still kind of makes me giddy. I go anyway, but it's MY choice. I'm also still being motivated by guilt regarding the way I left the ad agency so I occasionally help them out a bit. I really don't want to, but I don't know how to say no to them. I've asked them to stop calling me, but they keep saying it's an "emergency". There aren't enough writers in this town. They're using a guy in LA mainly, and it's problematic. I've been out of the agency biz for about 10 months now, and I'm still getting calls from other companies to freelance as well, but I don't have any trouble telling them no. But I feel guilty toward my new job for taking any work from Laster. Darned if I do, darned if I don't. Hopefully I can end this less gradually now.
Jake wants us to buy him a junk car to fix up, and I think we found one. The deal there is he will want to drive it after he fixes it, which totally goes against my overprotective gene. I've been fortunate that my kids have put up with my overprotectiveness for the most part. And I've eased up a bit...at least I let Jake drive after dark now, as long it isn't too late...or a weekend night...don't want him out with all the drunks. Man, I'm having a hard time letting go!
Well, there's probably more but I want to leave some for Mike to tell if he feels like it.
Life goes on...

Hmmm, where to start. . .not that my life has been exciting or anything. Mostly health related stuff - I was planning to have a hysterectomy in July but, guess what, you can't just go to the doctor anymore and say, "I want a hysterectomy." and get one. No, now they have to justify it by running bunches of tests - let's see - I had blood taken, urine test, ct scan of my abdoment, ultrasound in my uterus, endometrial biopsy, a d and c, and a hysteroscopy. All but the last two things were to determine if I had cancer in my uterus. Everything came up clean and clear but the doctors still sent me to a gynocological oncologist. The d and c and hysteroscopy was about ten days ago and I've heard nothing from them since. I came through the procedure very well, with no pain or discomfort of any kind except the lingering after effects of the anesthetic.

It's been hot here this summer and worse, humid. I gardened early but then I haven't done much in the yard since. We (all the family members from Ponca City and Ashley from Tulsa) went to Ruidoso for a four-day visit (actually two days were spent coming and going) with Mike, Edie and their kids. That was fun, especially after we got there. The trip to and fro wasn't bad but I said once years ago that I'd never do another quicky and I should have stuck to that decision. But, as I said, we had a really good time there.

I've had a little typing work and I've done some painting but mostly I've spent my time reading mysteries and some non-fiction. And that's about it. I will be going to K.C. for Haley's wedding Sept. 1. And then, hopefully, it will be fall and cooler and I can do stuff outside. I know Beth hates fall and winter but as I've gotten older and less tolerant of the heat, I have come to enjoy fall and early winter. I still don't like snow except for watching it come down, then it can melt.

I had hoped to travel with a friend to NM again this fall but things haven't worked out so well in that direction. Now we're planning to go in the spring. I love NM! Especially the northern part.

Guess that's all the update I have. Join in everyone, let's catch up. Don't have a subject to discuss but if someone comes up with something, I'm sure I'll have an opinion! Love to all of you, Mom

Sorry for the lack of communication. I've been pre-occupied, irritable, busy, etcetera.

Enough with excuses tho'.

For updates, I returned home last night (9/22/05) from Philadelphia where I went for a user's group conference. My school district uses a software suite from a company called Pentamation and I got drafted to go. Dumbass decision since I maintain the computers the software runs on but I don't use the system at all. In any case Philadelphia was great. I'm lobbying for a vacation there next summer. I caught a cold the day before I left so I was semi-miserable the whole time but I managed to see some landmarks and attend the conference anyway. The conference turned out to be less useless than I imagined because they did have a little bit of technical stuff.

Gretchen is matriculating as usual in College Station and is likely to see the tail end of Hurricane Rita, though she's far enough inland and high enough above sea level that she shouldn't have much problem. Stormy weekend tho'. She's doing well in her Junior year and last week she went to a job fair and investigated internships. She'll likely end up taking one in Dallas, Austin, Houston or San Antonio as that's where the majority of the openings are. The internship will be for next summer most likely.

Jacob's fall break starts this weekend so he's off school for two weeks. He seems to be taking school a little more seriously as a senior and so far still intends to try engineering as a course of study in college. I expect he'll try to get into A&M or go to UTEP. He still doesn't have the car he's been wanting but I expect we will eventually find one he can work on. The current plan is for him to get a car and fix it up and then when he's got it in sufficiently good condition swap it for my Hyundai. That will appease Edie's over protective inclinations (the Hyundai has front and side airbags). Currently Jacob is cruising along, not doin' much different than he has been, just skating and hangin' out with his Cat (His girlfriend).

Edie spent the week I was gone to Philadelphia working, going horseback riding, catching the cold I shared with her before I left and calling me for tech support when our internet connection was down at the house. She's very busy all the time working on Marketing plans, advertising, store displays, coordinating events and so on. She seems to be really liking all the work too, except for dealing with the occasional jerk that is inevitable in a job like hers.

Since this is still the number one topic here, I shall update again. Because I'm up at 5:42 a.m. and bored. So I'm sharing the boredom.

Anyway . . .

Haley is all married and apparently very happy. She writes incredible things on her xanga, you should check that out if you haven't been. www.xanga.com/onee She is moving back to Chicago in four months. I was upset at first, but then I realized that means I'll be visiting her and Monroe IN CHICAGO. I love it there. I am spending forever in the Art Institute next time. And seeing Oprah! Of course I wish Haley would live closer to me, but I don't know if they ever will.

Josh is actually LIKING school. It's a miracle. He is going to the alternative center, which, as I explained before I think, has smaller classes and no homework, or not much anyway. We were supposed to try and get him into this thing called the SHARE program at Vo-Tech, whereupon you do all your work on the computer in the morning and then learn a vocation in the afternoon, but he said the other day that he thought he might want to just stay at the alt. center the whole time because he liked it. I just about fell off my chair.

Josh's favorite thing to do lately seems to be jumping out and scaring the bejeebers out of me. I have no bejeebers left at this point. I literally thought I was going to have a heart attack the other night when he did that; I'm thinking I need to go get a defibrillator and keep it handy. He, of course, thought it was just hilarious.

Work is the same, except my friend Teri is leaving and I hate that. That means more work for me, no one fun to talk to and I have to get used to someone new all over again. My boss was gone yesterday and since it was Friday and Teri is not into working right now, we spent a good long time looking at guys on a singles site for her. She likes the biker look, apparently.

I would have been looking for me too, but I already met a guy. Not Jeff, he is permanently installed in the friend zone . . . this is a new guy, and I like him a lot. A lot a lot a lot. His name is John, he lives in Enid, and he has a little girl who is almost 10. He's very wordy and artistic and a deep thinker; all very good things . . . I won't go on about him right now, but I think he may fit in well with the family; we shall see. We're just being friends until my stupid divorce is final, whenever that will be . . . well, "special" friends . . . I'm not explaining what that means, but it's probably not what you think it is. Perverts.

That is all.
