To cut to the chase this involves 'gifting'. For lots of reasons, not the least of which is that it could be helpful to others (ME), I would like everyone to answer some questions:

Favorite color

Worst color

Hobbies/interests

Things I like/collect

music preference/favorite groups

Music/groups I hate

favorite Books/authors/types of books:

Books I dislike:

Home decor I never ever want to receive (i.e. an electric blanket, a statue of a fertility god from Napu)

Clothing sizes:
shirt;
pants;
hat;shoes;

Jewelry likes

Any catagories I may have inadvertantly left out:

Ok here are my answers..it took me about a hour to do this. I did it pretty fast and didn't answer everything and may add or subtract some stuff later.

Favorite food: Chocolate, pizza with veggies or spinach and bacon, diet Coke, cheesecake, grilled veggies,

Worst Food: Amish

Favorite pastime: Anything that makes me laugh.

Hobbies/interests: politics, current events, learning something new, reading, watching movies, Scrubs, Friends, hanging out with interesting people (a lack of this at the time, family excepted), animals, playing games/cards, daydreaming

Movies I dislike; sappy, syrupy movies, teen movies, Matrix 2 & 3, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings

Home decor style: shabby, retro with a little modern thrown in. I love Art Deco, but my budget, A.D.D.-ness, and lack of time haven’t made that a reality yet

Home decor I never ever want to receive (i.e. an electric blanket, a statue of a fertility god from Napu): Anything fake – fake flowers, fake leather, anything with glitter, or too gaudy. Also nothing too drab, or brown.

Favorite color: Black (it goes with everything). Dark purple is pretty. If we're talking clothes, I have discovered that I like brown because it actually looks good on me for some reason.

Worst color: Probably orange.

Favorite food: Tomato, onion, and bacon pizza.

Worst Food: Pretty much any seafood.

Favorite pastime: Playing laser tag, looking at great art up close, reading, movies, concerts . . .

Hobbies/interests: Oops. I thought that was what I was listing up there ^. Hobbies - skipping and jumping, pressing wildflowers . . . Interests: A very interesting guy named John Glaze. =)

Things I like/collect: Teapots (Hall, Fiesta, Ironstone, etc.) Cat figurines/sculptures, sometimes salt and pepper shakers if they are really interesting, but I am kinda picky about those. Books, CDs, concert tickets . . . =)

music preference/favorite groups: RADIOHEAD, Incubus, The Shins, Jack Johnson, Pink Floyd, The Decemberists, Coldplay, Queen, The Cranberries, Alanis Morissette, Chevelle, Lifehouse, Jars of Clay, etc.

Music/groups I hate: Anybody or any group that even remotely resembles Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, any boy band, rap, southern gospel, twangy country.

Favorite Books/authors/types of books: Types of books - anything funny (Zits, Calvin and Hobbes, old Pogo books, etc., David Sedaris, Dave Barry, etc.) Authors: David Sedaris, Anne Lamott, Orson Scott Card, DH Lawrence (I'm assuming I would like his work; the few poems of his that I've read are amazing). . Favorite books: Tomorrow's Children (just bought a paperback of it off of eBay - get in line if you want to borrow it, Joe is first after Josh reads it), I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, To Kill a Mockingbird, Alice in Wonderland . . .

Books I dislike: Romance novels.

Favorite movies (and what format): Grosse Pointe Blank (have it), Wayne's World 1 & 2 (need them on DVD), Benny and Joon (got it), Cold Mountain (want it), The Interpreter (would like to see it again) . . .

Movies I hate: Super macho movies with guys like Van Damme in them. ewww.

Home decor style: Eclectic. I like the arts and crafts style very much. Plain, simple lines, deep colors, comfiness, black accents, antiques, some shabby chic, also anything old, weird, Addams-family-ish, and/or headless. Body parts. Baby heads. yeah.

Home decor I never ever want to receive (i.e. an electric blanket, a statue of a fertility god from Napu): Cats that don't fit my extra picky standards, pastel anything, gold stuff, any kind of animal or animal head mounted on a board, extra fancy anything, art I haven't pre-approved. Yes, I know, I am picky. Too bad!

Clothing sizes: Small, extra small, nothing over a 3 unless it's a sweatshirt. Shoes - about a 7 1/2.

Jewelry likes: I don't wear hardly any, but pretty much the only thing I like is simple silver jewelry. I'd wear dangly beady earrings if I could but I can never get the left side to stay open and it's too much of a hassle to keep opening it back up with a safety pin just so it'll get infected again.

Jewelry hates: Anything big, gaudy, gold, or brightly colored.

Any catagories I may have inadvertantly left out: I WANT AN IPOD. And a new car. =)

Yay, Thank you Beth. One down 40 more to go. If your kids don't do it you can do an a abbreviated one FOR them to help those who may want to give them something sometime. Sorry about the pastimes and hobbies thing. I did the whole thing rather quickly. I am not averse to anyone making it better by the way.

What a revelation this has been...about you, my siblings, I already knew my likes and dislikes. Katie, your choice of home decor we would never want to recieve was inspired.

Favorite color: : Pink, variations of pink (plllllbbbtttttt) Also primary colors, pastels…I like most colors in one shade or another.

Worst color: drab brown, army green, camo

Favorite food: Chocolate, specifically the bday choc cake recipe and any kind of brownie, King Crab, steak, fried chicken (mom’s!) with mashed potatoes and gravy and GREEN BEANS, fried ham with fried apples, etc., pizza..home made is almost always better with food.

Worst Food: McDonalds, Burger King, most fast food, spinach, beef stroganoff

Favorite pastime:going to flea markets, garage sales, etc

Hobbies/interests: gardening, collecting,

Things I like/collect: I collect advertising, mostly the kind with a thermometer that hangs on the wall. I like local advertising best, Ponca and surrounding area. I don’t have anything from Uncas and would love to; I don’t have anything from Hannibal and would love to. Also, if it’s a thermometer that is extremely cool/old like one I passed up that was a combo furniture store/funeral parlor. I collect bells, mostly china bells with delicate flowers on them, all small, none of those big showy ones that are specifically for collecting. I’m picky. All collectors are. Also antique door plates and keyhole covers and old keys...old tin coffee pots...anything enamel. I have several old enamel teapots in various colors. Jim is going to put up a shelf all around the top of the kitchen so I can put all this stuff up there! What fun it will be to dust! Oh, and really old calendars, 50's on back.

music preference/favorite groups: Darren Hayes, formerly of Savage Garden,is my current favorite singer, JImmy Buffet but I have everything he ever did, Classic Rock, Soft Rock, POP!, alternative, some country, old stuff like Marty Robbins and Harry Belafonte, The New Christy Minstrels, suprisingly, even to me, Andrea Bocelli..

Music/groups I hate: Rap, disco

favorite Books/authors/types of books: Don't buy me books

Books I dislike:Many and varied. (stole this from Mike, so appropriate)

Favorite movies (and what format): DVD I guess, I don’t watch TV or movies very much. I did watch Schreck and loved it. Grosse Pointe Blank is an old favorite, hmmm

Movies I hate: lots of them, tearjerkers, blood and guts, horror, b-movies, ones where you can’t figure out the plot because it is so obscure or stupid or there isn’t one at all!

Home decor style: Eclectic, Antique, Shabby Chic. I like decorating with old stuff and pieces of stuff, like I have a fetish for keys and door plates and I have them on the wall. Oh, and mail boxes, but only the interesting ones.

Home decor I never ever want to receive (i.e. an electric blanket, a statue of a fertility god from Napu): Danish modern, imitation anything.

Clothing sizes:mostly don’t buy me clothes. There’s only one kind of jeans that I wear and I’ll buy them. Maybe a funny/cool t-shirt or hoody or bulky sweater, leather jackets are ok to buy me…but only buy me clothes if you can handle me never wearing your present or maybe seeing it at the resale shop or on Ebay.

Jewelry likes: Expensive antique jewelry, I can’t wear earrings unless they are silver or gold and I don’t wear much jewelry anyway.

jewelry hates: cheap, new stuff

Any catagories I may have inadvertantly left out: MONEY – you left out money!, you can always give me that. In green...

Jody, you should post more often . . . hell all of you should.

Money - that's a good one, why didn't I think of that? I want mine in green too, please.

Oh I want an Ipod too, while we're asking for things. And a car. =)

But I'll take Radiohead CDs.

Heh, Jody, you haven't had Edie's Stroganoff. You might change your mind about that.

"...mail boxes, but only the interesting ones."

I was at a training once for UNIX security and the trainer said, "This is interesting, for some value of interesting". I have no idea what value "interesting" might have in regard to mail boxes, though I did once see a picture of one about 5 feet tall, 7 feet long and made of stone in the shape of a .45 automatic. Thats tho only one I've ever seen that was (for me) interesting enough to remember.

Okay, here are my answers to these questions/categories, but before I forget, send those recipes or at least the names of the recipes you'd like to see included in the family cookbook we are doing and memories involving those recipes. I have most all of the "family" recipes and am typing them up but we need stories too. So, remember that and here's my answers:

Favorite color - blue - all types and shades of blue

Worst color - green (although I like to look at green on trees outside, so no snide comments)

Favorite food - mashed potatoes - steak - chocolate

Worst Food - cottage cheese/yogurt

Favorite pastime - reading

Hobbies/interests - reading, painting, hiking

Things I like/collect - leaves, rocks, shells, candle holders, lladro (sp?) figurines if anyone is rich enough - they cost the earth

music preference/favorite groups - Neil Diamond, of course, and John Denver; Andrea Bocelli (I already have a number of his albums) - and assorted others. I like the Beatles now and don't have any of their albums.

Music/groups I hate - any rap, any heavy metal, most country, religious (even if it is modern religious)

favorite Books/authors/types of books:- spirituality/self help (but I have a zillion books on spirituality and self-help). Michael Talbot is an author I like to read; also Anne Lamott. Anything that combines spirituality with science/physics. Also would like Al Franken's latest book.

Books I dislike: books by any of the so-called religious writers

Favorite movies (and what format) DVD's now - Joe bought a new DVD player and our VCR is bust - The Star Wars movies, Lord of the Rings, the first movie, Braveheart, some way to get my vcr tapes onto dvd.

Movies I hate - slapstick mostly or horror. No Stephen King movies.

Home decor style - eclectic - leaning toward country - informal. Decorative items like crystal, pottery, drawings/paintings that I can't do.

Home decor I never ever want to receive (i.e. an electric blanket, a statue of a fertility god from Napu) - talking fish or any other animal that is mounted on the wall and makes sounds. Any kind of sleazy, decorative item similar to that - i.e., little dogs supposedly pooping, etc.

Clothing sizes: - large
shirt; large
pants; don't even try
hat;shoes; don't wear hats, have to buy my shoes where I can try them on

Jewelry likes - don't wear jewelry anymore

jewelry hates - brooches, pins, etc.

Any categories I may have inadvertently left out: Sees candy, money (that is crass, isn't it, but true), art work of the kind I can't do, anything you think I will like - you all have good taste.

Just to be contrary:

Have you seen "The Shawshank Redemption" or "The Green Mile"? I can't stand most of Steven King's movies but these two are notable exceptions.

Ha, I was going to say exactly the same thing. Shawshank Redemption is like, the best movie EVER. Well in that genre anyway. You all know my feelings about Grosse Pointe Blank.

Yes, I have seen both the Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. I loved both of them. But I didn't know until afterwards that Stephen King had written them. I think he is an excellent writer - I just can't read horror or watch horror movies - it's all my parents fault! No, really, there is a long story about why I can't watch or read horror stories but I'm sure you've heard it before, so suffice it to just say that I can't and don't want to be reformed. Lot's of good movies and books out there without watching that genre, right? Right.
