Do you remember making doughnuts in the kitchen at the old house? Mom had that cutter you could remove the doughnut hole part from to make biscuits. After they cooked we rolled them in cinnamon sugar. I think we only made them 2 or 3 times, probably because it was such a chore and a mess to clean up, but they were really good. Mom is also the only person I’ve known to make cinnamon rolls from pie dough. I don’t remember any pie though. Homemade bread was another thing I always enjoyed from the smell while it was cooking until it was all gone. I didn’t like making it or egg noodles though because they were so hard to mix.

Other dishes I remember:

Cherry Pudding with sauce
Apple Crisp
Brown bread
Orange bread
Banana cake
Pumpkin bread
Chocolate Chip cookies
Oatmeal cookies
Snickerdoodles (I really just remember the name but I think Mom used to make them)
Biscuits
Corn bread
Pat’s Brownies (Pat Garrett who lived on North 4th)

Round steak and gravy
Kidney Pie (A later addition that included real beef kidney and beer)
Pork chops and rice
Swiss steak
Goulash
Slumgullion!!??? (Our slumgullion was other people’s goulash I found out later, and our goulash was Hungarian – or so Mom said. I think it was about as Hungarian as Woman’s Day magazine)
Beans and Weiners – Joe likes them so I won’t say anything
Breaded tomatoes and spinach with sliced hardboiled eggs – good riddance
Asparagus (makes up for the tomatoes - kind of)
Brussel sprouts and Lima beans (I liked both)
Beans and ham with cornbread
Mashed potatoes and fried potatoes, became boiled potatoes as the years and kids went on and on
Fried apples…I want some
Potato soup and No Bake Cookies came from Phyllis Watson
Pizza started with a box of Chef Boy-Ar-Dee mix
Chicken Chow Mein was another ‘new’ dish that was so dark it looked evil but we ate it anyway. We ate just about anything.

I remember hamburgers every Saturday night and cookouts all summer

Dad made scrambled eggs and toast when he cooked. And goats milk ice cream.

Mom made waffles and eggs and bacon until we had all eaten but I don’t remember her ever sitting down for breakfast.

I remember eating dove/pigeon breast and being upset about it but really liking the taste. Frog legs. Are really good. Squirrels are really skinny.

I keep remembering more...Roast beef on Sunday with Grandpa Zuvie. Turkey and all that stuff on Thanksgiving and Christmasbut I have to go to bed now. If others will post recipes and other anecdotes we could make them into a real cookbook and give everyone a copy (Beth works for a publishing company you know)

(ALSO put in recipes of yours to share){and a picture or two would be nice}[But that's all. Nothing else. At all. Don't even ask.]((I like parenthesis))
