What would your resolutions be if you have any...

I don't have any resolutions since everything I'm doing now I started this last year and I'm just continuing... I have continuing resolutions (as politicians say).

I'm working on starting a business
- taking a class in gunsmithing
- getting my business plan together
- researching various and sundry like locations, funding, etc
- trying to come up with marketing ideas

dieting
- still

building a race gun
- Edie helped a lot by giving me a ParaOrdnance P16.40 for xmas.
- Now I just need custom parts and the stones to drill holes in the pistol frame

I don't do New Year's Resolutions, I do them all year long. At the moment, the things I'd like to either do or not do are:

Not be late to work. I work on this EVERY DAY. I am still late at least once or twice a week, usually just by a minute or two, sometimes three or four.

To get more sleep.

To get things done more efficiently; not put things off so much or neglect things I need to do.

Find some good, consistent solution to my cooking problem so Josh can stop looking anorexic.

To get over the social and other anxiety problems.

To work towards doing more freelance graphic design. This does not mean I want to leave where I'm working now though, especially since the Sherries just hired me themselves (this means I don't have to work through the personnel agency anymore and I have more paid days off!) I have a portfolio of two custom-made invitations now. Woo hoo!

To be closer to God and a more purposeful Christian, as opposed to what I've been doing, which is basically nothing.

To get some muscles.

To get out of debt.

To get over my baggage problems. By baggage I mean Danny. By the way if you haven't heard already he apologized . . . only a couple of years too late, but he did seem very sincere.

To continue being happy.

I don't know how John Glaze fits in with resolutions, but he's a very good thing right now, so he gets mentioned anyway.

That's all for now.

I have no idea what my resolutions should be. Something needs to change, but I'm not sure what. I think I should get rid of my friends and not have people who matter to me other than my family. Other people just seem to trigger my obsessive/compulsive behaviors.

Other than that I guess I just need to try to focus more on my job and my schoolwork. I need to be better at my job, and actually learn the classwork I'm supposed to be learning instead of just learning it enough to pass the tests.

Most of all I need to get over this low-grade depression that's been plaguing me for the last few months and sapping my energy and vitality, confusing my soul and locking up my emotions.

ON another note...Beth, I use a cookbook called Light & Easy Menus from Cooking Light. It's a rather thin cookbook, but every page has a complete dinner on it that is very light, very few ingredients, and can easily be put on the table in 30 minutes or less by even the least motivated cook. It also doesn't have a lot of stupid hard-to-find ingredients or stuff nobody will like. And the meals are small enough that there won't be a lot of leftovers. Anyway, that might help with your cooking problem.

Edie, is this the right one? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/084872383X/qid=1136529081/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/104-2862465-8391932?n=507846&s=books&v=glance

I may actually consider trying that, since nothing else seems to be working. Just thinking about cooking makes me tired, but if these really are super easy I might give it a try. Thanks!

I'm sorry you're depressed . . . I wish I had some good advice for you. I do recommend that everyone get their thyroid checked - and I know it's one of those things where I just think everyone has what I have, but my depression went away almost completely when I finally got my thyroid regulated right; it never hurts to check it out.

My children took some of the swag (money and gift cards) they got for christmas and bought me a video (Batman Begins) and a little book of Buddhist "Gathas" which are small situational meditations to remind a person to live in the moment and have greater clarity and appreciation for the events of the moment.

I share a couple of random gathas now:

Dealing with pain: "Relaxing around the sensation of pain, I let pain be where it is. I discover that pain is inevitable but suffering is optional. I return to myself, practice mindful breathing, looking at these feelings, and smile. Doing this, I overcome pain."

Setting priorities: "Peace of mind is my top priority. I reflect on what is truly of value, what gives meaning to life. I set my other priorities on that basis."

Making a decision: "Decisions can stir up powerful feelings. My thoughts are just thoughts - they are not me or reality. Which choice will benefit others? Which choice will move me toward peace?"

small clarification here: "Gathas" as use here is the definition given by the author of the book (201 Little Buddhist Reminders - Gathas for your daily life) that I was quoting from. I don't thing these are related to the Zoroastrian Gathas.

Beth, when I go to the URL you gave, it shows a book called light&easy Meals. When I click on that picture, it shows a book called light&easy Menus. The Menus book is the one I use, but I subscribe to the Cooking Light magazine and just about every recipe they feature is easy and good. I started using the Menus book when I was regularly getting home after 8 and it was so late for cooking.

I have thyroid disease, it's under control, I get it checked every 6 months with a full blood workup. The doc recently decreased my prescription from .3 to .2 ...a pretty big drop...that may have something to do with it, I guess. I get the feeling this isn't any kind of science. It does correspond with my unusual depression, but so does the increased stress of holiday season in the retail business, with a new job and a boss I can't read. Which I think is the real thing behind the emotional stuff.

Anyway, life is continually good, whether I remember that or not...
