Self Esteem, Self Confidence, Self Awareness, and Importance of Education in Today’s Young Women=Alabama State Forestry Scholarship Program

The Alabama Forestry Scholarship Program motto is four factors that make this program unique. Each factor has influenced our daughter’s life this past year even though she’s only eight years old. When Abigail Marler was crowned 2006 Little Miss Forestry her dreams became a reality. This pageant will always be special to her because it was her first pageant win. Recently, she stated one day I’ll win Miss Alabama Forestry when I grow-up and Ms. Kay will have to give me a big scholarship to attend Auburn University. This statement reassured the importance influence of scholarship pageants in our community to promote education.
Abigail McKenzie Marler-2006 Little Miss Wiregrass Forestry would like to wish each contestant good luck in the 2007 Wiregrass Forestry Pageant. There may be only one queen in each age group, but every contestant is a winner for competing. This past June when Abigail’s dream became a reality we didn’t know anyone at the start of the pageant. Now we have met many new friends that have become special during her reign.
Ms. Kay and Ms. Carol have given so much time during this past year promoting the Forestry Program-Thank you!
Good luck and thank you to Abigail’s fellow sister queens and thanks to you for serving as queens this past year for the Wiregrass program.
Abigail M. was blessed at the Alabama State Forestry Pageant. She made the top five and won second alternate in the Little Miss age group.
Abigail would like to thank Ms. Debbie Tuck from the Princess Pageant Room. You helped find the right dress and helped prepare Abigail for all the pageants.
Good luck to Ms. Kerrie Strano the new director for the Wiregrass Pageant.
This past November 2006, Abigail M. won the title of 2006 Little Miss Greater Enterprise. This is the first preliminary for the 2007 Little Miss Alabama State Forestry Pageant. Abigail M. can’t wait to meet the new Little Miss Wiregrass Forestry.
Last, we would like to say how proud we are of our daughter Abigail Marler. We love you for being yourself. You are a great little sister to your big brother Benjamin. You have maintained straight “A’s” since kindergarten with all your extra curricular activities. We are proud that you also recently made the Aerial’s Competitive Gymnastics Team. Your self esteem, confidence and self awareness has shined during your reign as 2006 Little Miss Wiregrass Forestry.
Thank you,
Wayne and Sherry Marler

WARNING: THIS MIGHT BE LONG..SORRY: ļ

I would like to take a moment to say Good Luck to all of the contestants competing at the Wiregrass Forestry pageant this weekend. My Abigail (E) has been proud to represent the Wiregrass system and the previous directors Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Carol, especially at state. She made it to the top five at this her first state level pageant and went on to be crowned 2006 AL Forestry Princess, which she is very proud to be. We hope that each and every girl competing remembers the important thing this weekend, having fun and meeting new people!!! You are all winners!! Abigail cannot wait to see who she gets to crown as her successor!! You will have a blast at state!!

Abigail would also like to say that she has enjoyed getting to meet and get to know all of her Wiregrass sister queens. Our Little Miss, Abigail M. has been very special to her as they not only went to state together last year, they will be doing it again this year as Greater Enterprise queens!!!

To Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Carol! Abigail loves you and will be sad and happy this weekend! It has been a pleasure representing your prelim at state last year and she is proud to be representing your other one this year!! Y¡¦all are the best and we love you.

To Mrs. Kerrie Strano: We have loved getting to know you and wish you all the luck in taking over the Wiregrass system! Your rock!

Last, I want to tell Abigail that I love you with all of my heart. I am so proud of you in everything you do. Besides all this pageant stuff, more importantly, you are just a great girl who has big dreams. (Abigail has been on the honor roll since Kindergarten, so we are proud not only her beauty, but especially her brains!!) You have developed and grown so much over the last year as a person and as a pageant queen, and I am extremely proud to call you MY LITTLE PRINCESS!! Mommy loves you angel!

Amy, Erika, Madyson, Abigail E., Abigail M., Lacey, & Lauren,

We would like to take this time to say a special farewell to the 2006 Wiregrass Forestry Queens. You all did an awesome job at State last year representing Wiregrass Forestry. I know that you have all had a short reign but thanks for a job well done. You are all beautiful and I know that we will see you all back at Alabama Forestry or Alabama Woodlands in the near future. We love you all and thanks for making our year special to be able to spend it with you.

I would like to take this time to wish everyone competing at Wiregrass Forestry Good Luck. Tomorrow should be an awesome pageant with an awesome Director - Mrs. Kerrie Strano is a very loving and caring director and I know that every contestant will have a great time tomorrow. And remember only one person can win the title but a true crown is worn by your heart and the love you show for others.

A special wish for Mrs. Kerrie Strano...Good Luck at the pageant tomorrow. I can hardly wait to see who your new queens will be.

To my very own Alabama Forestry Princess - Abigail England who is also the reigning Petite Miss Wiregrass Forestry. I am so glad that we met just over a year ago. You are one special young lady who holds a special place in my heart. Sit back and relax tomorrow and have fun. I know it may be a little emotional for you...but you will only grow from this experience. I love you Abigail!

See you at the pageant,
Ms. Carol

Hey Ladies! I am setting up an Online Store to sell high quality pageant items! My first store was only for Georgia, but now I am opening it up to everyone! I am only accepting current items, either name brand or custom made because they are so much easier to sell! I am taking swimsuits, evening gowns, interview suits, Cocktail dress, Talent Outfits- everything, as long as it’s of good quality. It doesn’t HAVE to be Tony Bowls or Sherri Hill, just at par with a National or State Competition. I am using PAYPAL to have that guarantee and security of your personal bank information! If you need information please email me at the address above with any questions! I hope to have the site finished and launched in the next couple of weeks, at that point I will release the URL! Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I wanted to say congrats to all of the new Greater Enterprise Queens.

I am very proud that my two girls, Kailynn and Abigail can be sister queens once again. Early afternoon is such a hard time for Kailynn being two years old and normally napping at that time, but she managed to still do a great job and I am very proud of my baby. She has only recently started doing pageants, and she really seems to enjoy them. Abigail, you never cease to amaze me sweetheart!! Your beauty and grace always shows in everything you put your heart into. I am so amazed at the year you have had being you just started competing in pageants this past February. I am mostly proud of your interview scores..perfect 10's from both judges!! Of all of the positive comments, the one that said "christianity really shows" really made me the proudest. I am glad to know I have instilled that in you. I love you both.

Haven: YOU GO GIRL!! You did awesome no matter what! You always do no matter what you are doing. You have the greatest heart. Abigail is thrilled to finally get to call you her sister queen.

Abigail Marler: Well, third time sister queens!! We are thrilled!!!

Jennifer: Glad you could emcee. Abigail was very happy to see you! She is looking forward to many great memories this year with all of the state queens. See you Saturday at the parade!

Hannah, you were beautiful as usual and Abigail appreciated you coming up in the intermission and complimenting her. I am glad you both can be so sweet during competition at such a young age.

Amy: Thanks for Abigial's H/M!! You are such a great friend and are always there to help us!

Carol and Kay: Thanks for putting on another great pageant. We are proud, once again, to represent your system. I am glad Abigail could be one of the first girls to win her way to state, and we look forwrad to it!!

Kay and Carol: We had a great time in Auburn! Being big Auburn fans, it was really cool to be up there on game day! It was an honor to be able to represent the forestry and woodlands queens in this manner. I am so glad that Abigail and Kailynn were able to be a part of this event.

We also were thrilled that we have our first "funny story" to tell when the girls get to talk about their year. Getting "the tour" was an experience for sure. I know it wasn't funny to you at the time Carol, but we can all laugh about it now.

Haven: I know that Kailynn can be a little shy when she first meets anyone, but I am so glad that she was able to get to know you and quickly warmed up and seems to love you now. She has mentioned your name since Saturday, so you made an impact. (but who doesn't love you after they meet you??!!) Also, as usual, you were a great sport being that you were in TIGER country and an Alabama fan! :-) Abigail was very happy to get to spend some time with you also.

Reagan: We are glad that we were able to spend a little time with you. You are a sweet and special little girl. We look forward to getting to know you even more as the year progresses!!!

Thank you to Auburn and the Forestry Alumni for making us feel very special!!

You can see pictures of the dress on Wiregrass Forestry and Tri-County Camellia; however, we have added layers under the bottom to make it poof out more since Tri-County. Wiregrass is more accurate. Just wanted to say Good Job to Abigail this past weekend at the Pre-Teen Alabama event in B'Ham. Abigail was a state finalist along with 50 plus girls ages 7-9. There was also a Sr. category ages 10-12 that had over 50 girls in it too. This was not a beauty pageant, although her skills in that regard did help her. The participants competed in seven evaluation categories. 1) Academic Achievement, 2) Volunteer Service to Church and Community, 3) School Honors and Activities, 4) Development of Personal Skills and Abilities, 5) General Knowledge, 6) Communicative Ability (Interview) and 7) On-Stage Acknowledgement of Accomplishments (Introduce self and walk in front of judges on stage). Out of the 50 plus girls in her category, Abigail placed in the top 20. She was awarded Outstanding Nine Year Old!! The top ten in the category were semi-finalist and then the next top ten (11-20) were in the outstanding category. She was in that area, we just don't know exactly where. I am very proud of her!!! There was A LOT to be evaluated on and she handled it like a trooper!!! She also had lots of fun! Love ya Abby!!!!

I can not tell you how much this past weekend ment to me. I was so happy to be there and yet I was so sad to be giving up my title. I love everything about this pageant system, but most of all I love getting to spend time with all of the girls. Getting to meet new people is the best thing about pageants to me. In 2003 I met to wonderful girls and we have remained friends since that time. Thank you Morgan, and Caroline for being such good friends to me. This year I have added to that great list of friends. I was so blessed to have met Abigail, Anna Kate, and many more. I hope that we can all keep in touch and be friends for a life time.

To my 2005 sister queens , Their Moms , Mrs Carol, Mrs Kay, Bethney, Carrissa and the U.S. Queens .You all have made this past year one of the best years of my life. I will never forget all of the silley moments and the great times that we have shared.

To all of the new forestry queens. I am so happy for each and every one of you. I know that you will have the time of your life, Carish every moment and each other.

To all of the County Directors. I think you all did an awesome job. And thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of your love and support that you gave me this past weekend,It ment more to me then you'll ever know.

Love Always,

I was truely amazed this past weekend. With all the nerves, anxiety and pressure it shows a person's true character. I observed 3 young ladies who I have never had as queens before, become true role models. Haley Walker, Jessica Adams and Bethany Stone are those role models. They were cordial, always had a smile on their face, worked hard and continued to answer questions and offer advice when they did not have to. They were willing to carry boxes, share their dressing rooms, answer dozens of questions from contestants and never lost their temper or their smile. I was truely amazed at how nice they were. When you work with pageants, it seems that all you here is the negative things and I am here to tell you that I had nothing to do with the success of these young woman and they are truely remarkable. I saw Jessica running back and forth (with me) to get the girls in order, check dresses and keep the contestants calm. I saw Haley give up her dressing time to sit on the floor with little girls and play with them, give them her food and address a mob of questions. When Bethany was finished helping with the presentations, she was working like a dog carrying packages, doing erronds and calming little girls, while other girls acted like divas. I just want to offer my impressions, because I see girls everyday who need these qualities. They are not self absorbed like you would have expected them to be. Keep up the good work and others will notice too. I have no doubt that their ethics, patience and work ethic will give them great success in the future! Miss Debby

What a great pageant! To all the contestants - it was awesome getting to meet all of you and thanks for all your patience at dance practice! All of you had the best attitude and your "queenliness" was evident by the way you carried yourself. It is getting to know girls like all of you that makes pageants a good experience.

To the new queens:

Enjoy your year! I cannot tell you how much of a ball you will have. Cherish your little sisters because I know how much they look up to you. You will come to love each one of them and I promise you, tears will flow this time next year. I am really not a cry-baby - it just is really hard to know that a great year is coming to an end.

Sydney - as the new Teen Miss - you will be awesome. I was truly honored to crown you.

To all my 2005 sister queens - I miss you already. Hannah - congrats on beng crowned the Petite Miss Camellia. Savannah - go easy on the new girls. They all don't have the babysitting skills like me! (Smile). Haven, Chelsea, Haydyn and Hannah - what a wonderful year and thanks for the laughs and tears this weekend.

To all the moms - you all worked your tails off. Thank you for making it so special for us. I love you all.

Miss Kay and Miss Carol - again - thanks for the "round". I have enjoyed being part of the Forestry family. Give yourself a hug from me.

To all the directors - you all sent some great girls to state - thanks for working so hard to make this year big.

Abigail and I would also like to take a minute and thank a few very special people who made Abigail's pageant experiences this year go much better and whose support and guidance led to a wonderful experience at state.

The first would be Carol Arnold, co-director for the Forestry Pageant and Director for the Camellia pageant. She has put up with numerous questions from me being a first year pageant mom. Abigail and I have been learning a lot, and she has been sweet and patient with me through it all. Without you, I would have fallen apart. Thank you for putting up with all of my emails and questions!! It means more than you will ever know.

The second person is Kimberly Trotter at Pageant Perfect. You have been with us since February of this year when we decided to get Abigail some coaching to try her hand at pageants. Well, obviously you did something right as she got 2nd runner up at her first pageant in Taylor. Since then, you have been there for advice, coaching, making sure Abigail has the perfect thing to wear and much much more. We were so thrilled to learn that you and Katelyn would be able to attend the Camellia and Forestry State pageants. Having you there meant a lot to Abigail. Once you got to the pageant, you took over with her and I was able to somewhat relax, which made for a much nicer experience. The amount of work that you put into turning that dress Abigail picked into the perfect dress for her was amazing. You went above and beyond and I cannot tell you how happy you made us both. When she put that dress on for the final time before state, we were in awe!! We had so many people tell us how beautiful that dress was!! Thank you!! Thank you!!

Last but not least, my best friend in the world...Becky!! You have been at every pageant this year, supported Abigail and I think actually started to get more nervous than me if that is possible. You have become her second mother in all of this and without you, it would NOT have been possible. I won't list all the ways you have helped, as there are too many, but you know. We love you so much! I have said it before, I have never met anyone like you and you are my rock. Abigail really really appreciates you being there for everything she does!! xoxoxoxo

I just want to say how proud I am of my girls. For directing my first pageant, Henry, Barbour and Geneva Counties I was thrilled to see that 2 of my "Miss" winners finished first and second runner's up. Mallory King and Brianna Dollar..."great job". I was also very proud of Abby McComb for her work ethic, her family's good attitude toward the competition and especially her win! I think all the girls did a great job, that came from this
Tri-County preliminary. Especially, Anna-Kate Faulk...considering her alterations problems and having to drive back to Dothan at the last minute, she did awesome. Sometimes we don't see all that goes on behind the scenes.
Jessica Bennett, was such a professional and I was very proud of her second runner up finish in Junior Miss. Other than that, Haven Peak had an awesome voice and there are going to be great things in that girl's future.
Congrats to Savannah Watson, Chasilyn Sawyers, Kloe Brewer, and Abigail Marler...Great Job girls! You are truely queens to me. Much love, Miss Debby

Abigail and I would like to thank Mrs. Carol and Mrs. Kay for a wonderful weekend!! We had lots of fun (and tears during all of those former queen tearful moments) and look forward to a great year!!

I am so proud of my little girl for being named top five at the pageant!! You have worked so hard being this is your first year really getting involved in pageants. You have had an outstanding year and to be named in the top five at your first state pageant, WOW! what an accomplishment! I am so excited that you were named 2006 Alabama Forestry Princess!! You have worked hard and are very deserving of the title PRINCESS! I have always called you that, now it is in writing!!!

We are excited to be a part of the Forestry family this year and look forward to taking part in the many activities to come.

Abigail would like to tell all the girls that competed that she really enjoyed meeting all of you and that you all were beautiful! She says to tell you that you are all Queens and Princesses!!

To Jennifer, Sydney, Caroline, Savannah, Reagan and Chasilyn (and parents): CONGRATS!! We look forward to getting to know you all better this year. Everyone keeps saying to get ready for SO much fun, and from what we have seen, we believe them!!!!

Also, Mrs. Sirena: Thank you for your cheers!! I heard you cheering Abigail on as your Tri-County Queen, and from the bottom of our hearts, that meant a lot.

Mrs. Kay and Mrs. Carol: Between being your Wiregrass Queen and now your Alabama Princess, we are all going to really get to know each other and we welcome that! You both are wonderful women who have gone out of your way to create a system that is fair AND fun!! It is hard to find that sometimes! THANKS!!!!

Thanks to everyone for such a great weekend and opportunity!! We also look forward to continuing to grow in this pageant system. We love it!!!!

Wow! We knew we had the honor of having some great young ladies but you all made us so proud. The way you carried yourself on and off the stage made you queens from the start.

Congratulations to all 6 of you for gracing the stage as top five finalists and to the 4 of you who went on to win your division. Haley and Casey - you have a big responsibility this year! We will be looking to the two of you for a lot of appearances.

Chasilyn, Reagan, Caroline and Sydney - We are sad to lose you as our queens but honored to know you will represent us well as Alabama Forestry queens. Just don't think we won't be calling on you every once in a while.

All 6 of you young ladies are amazing and we knew it from the night you were crowned in our pageant. We love you and are so proud to call you Houston County queens.

To Kay and Carol:

I just want to say thank you for your time and dedication to the Forestry/Camellia pageants. I can only imagine how much you put into making these programs grow and how much it means to the young ladies. Unlike other pageants, you go above and beyond to make sure winning the crown goes beyond winning the pageant, but throughout the year you make sure the girls take with them a lifetime of memories and lessons that will help them as they embark on new adventures in life.

For those who have never competed at state, you are in for a wonderful weekend. Bring plenty of film and tissues! You will be amazed at how much fun the girls have getting to know each other. Just remember to keep in perspective that only one girl can win the crown, but to each of us, our girls are queens. Show your support and good sportsmanship because our daughters look at us as role models and how we act leaves an impression on how they will react.

Cannot wait to meet all of you this weekend.

Good luck to all of the contestants!

As another successful, wonderful year comes to a close, I find myself as I always do at this time. I can't seem to find adequate words to tell you all what a great year it has been and how awesome I think all of you are! Having the pageant each year is a confusing time of emotions--excited for the weekend but at the same time reluctant to let go of the past. I want you all to remember that you are now and forever part of the "Alabama Forestry Family." You will always have a special place in my heart. For those of you who can still move up I hope you come back til you win the big crown! Our goal is the same as it has always been--giving the largest scholarship possible to further education and to be the best system around. I feel very proud of what MAFPA has accomplished in 5 years. Thank you all for being a part of that!! I can't express enough the gratitude I feel in my heart for all of you that have helped us make this dream a reality.

To Hayley, Hannah, Haydyn, Haven (the 4H's) and Chelsea, Cayla, and Ashley--there are no words to tell you how I feel about spending the year with you watching you grow, mature, and change this year. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work and dedication.

Hayley--I love having a Miss AL Forestry that can sing!!! I hope you use your gift throughout your life in a good way. I will miss you!!!

Ashley,

I just want to tell you how proud I am of you and your accomplishments to date. I know this is only the beginning and your life is on course for greater adventures, but you have made such an impact on so many lives without even trying. It is hard today to remain true to self, with pressures and "friends" always trying to pull you in.

Your year as 2005 Teen Miss Alabama Forestry has been an excited and busy year! I am very proud at your ability to speak and represent the program so well. I love the energy you always had with all the girls and they way they look up to you and you see them. I admire your ability to find time to let each of your little sisters are special and you love them all the same. I can see the admiration you have for your big sister, Haley, and this fuels your desire to move on with life!

You define what pageants are about - fun, commitment, a learning experience, a lesson in diversity but most of all -a lesson about pride!

I have enjoyed being your taxi for the last year and I hope you enjoy this weekend - you have earned it!

Love

Hayden, Savannah and Madison - you all know how special you are to me - you are really the little sisters I never had - I will always the there to cheer you on. Hello ladies,
I have just looked at my calendar and can not believe that in just two short weeks we will all be in Troy for the Alabama Forestry Pageant. To all the young ladies that are the 2005 Forestry Queens, what can I say--- YOU are ALL very special to me. Each time we were together I found something new about each of you that I will carry with me. Thanks for the silly times and special memories. To Miss Carol and Miss Kay- it is hard to believe the year has gone by so quickly. We all had MAJOR events going on in our lives during the past year and I know we are all better because of them. To the "moms"-- thank you for all your kind words and allowing me the chance to spend time with your daughters.
To the young ladies coming to compete...let me say- you are in for a great time. It is hard to consider this a pageant- it is more like a family event. You will enjoy your time and to the luck ladies who will be crowned...buckle your seat belt. =)
See you all soon. Just wanted to wish you all the best of luck!!!
God Bless you all,
Haley Diane Walker

Kay/Carol,

Thank you so much for arranging the get together last evening for all of the forestry queens. It was really a lot of fun for all! I was so glad to put a face with my email friends! Payton got to meet some of the girls from the pageant and got to see a couple of girls that she was in Peanut with and she had a lot of praises for the pageant on our way home last night.

Thanks again for everything,

I just wanted to thank Carol and Kay for taking the time out of their busy schedule to host this event tonight, and say how nice it was to get together with all the Mom's and Queens to let their hair down. I could really see the awesome personalities of the girls when they were together. It should be great fun in Troy. Who ever gets the opportunity to represent the Forestry Pageant System will be the best of the best!

P.S.(Inside joke) Does anyone know who immitates the commerical... "It was shake and bake, and I helped!" ???

I wanted to take a moment and say congrats to my little girl Abigail England for winning 2006 Petite Miss Wiregrass Forestry!! We are so proud to have become involved with this system when she won Tri-County Camellia, and even more thrilled for Abigail to officially now be a Forestry Queen!! You are having such a wonderful year and I am so super proud of you!!! Good luck at state. I know you will do great because you will do your best. No matter what happens, just remember God and your mommy loves you beyond words!!!! I love you baby girl!!

I would also like to say thank you to all the prelim and state directors that I am getting to know so well! Being new to the system, we have been invited with open arms and made to feel very welcome here!! All of you put up with all of my questions and for that I really thank you. Abigail and I were very proud to get to be involved backstage and help out at Greater Geneva County. This whole thing has just been a wonderful experience!!! Thanks to all of you especially Carol, Kay, Sirena, Kim and all of the state and United States Queens that have made us feel welcome!! We love it!!

We would also like to thank Kimberly at Pageant Perfect for everything you do!! We love you!!!

Also, now that the prelims have finished up, Abigail and I would like to wish each and every person at the Camellia and Forestry state pageants the best of luck. The most important thing is that everyone have a great time and really get to know each other. Meeting new people and friends has been the best part of this whole thing. Just please remember to be fair, courteous and keep your chins up no matter what. You are all queens in your own right, and to even be participating at the state pageant says a lot about each of you!!! With or without a crown, remember your all winners because you are God's creations!!!

Last, we want to take a minute to thank my best friend, and Abigail's "Aunt Becky". Without you, none of this would be possible. After God, you are my rock!! Your constant support for me and Abigail are unmatched!!! We love you so much!!! Can't wait to have a great time with you at State!!!

Congratulations to each individual that won their division at the Houston County Forestry Pageant. I had so much fun being with all the 2005 Forestry Queens and all the contestants who participated in the pageant. You all were beautiful and made the judges job very difficult.

Ms Kerri and Ms Jennifer you guys did a wonderful job with the pageant and you have some wonderful representatives for Houston County. I look forward to seeing all of them in July in Troy for the state pageant. Also thank you for allowing me the opportunity to sing-- and Mr. Donnie---you are the "greatest sound man".

See all of you soon!
