“Oh god! I don’t know if I can do this anymore! Every time I read through this I just get these overwhelming images, and it’s not just the images, it’s the pain, the fear, the smell.” Anna screeches as she jumps from her chair and paces the room, trying desperately to regain her composure, a battle that was failing minute by minute. “Oh Anna I’m so sorry. I wish there was something that I could do for you.” Laura says to her, wishing that she could help her in some way to ease her pain. Anna wipes her tears away and takes in a sharp breath to word off the rest of her tears. She then clears her throat and turns to Laura. “No need to be sorry Laura, there’s nothing you could have done. What’s done is done.” Anna valiantly tells her, trying to be strong while feeling all the while like she could curl up into a ball on the floor and cry for a while. Laura gets up from her chair and moves over to her. “You don’t have to be strong for me Anna.” Laura tells her as she wraps her arms around Anna. Anna looses her battle with her composure and heaves big sobs of tears.

After a few minutes of crying, Anna wipes her tears as she takes in a few deep breaths. “If it’s him, I think we should make arraignments to take him home with us so that we can give him a proper burial.” Anna somberly tells her.

“What if it’s not him?” Laura cautions.

“Laura there’s a reason why I was brought to this Island. When we were at home and sitting down around the map. I pinpointed Poca Isla because it was screaming out at me. And ever since I have set foot onto this Island, he’s been everywhere. It’s almost as if his ghost is here, his spirit. And god I know that sounds so bizarre, but it’s how I feel right now.”

“But do you think it could be possible that he was here but was alive and you’re just feeling his aura?” Laura offers but then pauses. “Oh god I sound like Lucy!” She barks as she has a look of disbelief and disgust on her face.

Anna couldn’t help herself; she just could not help it as she broke out in a burst of laughter. She knew that Kevin was married to Lucy Coe and she knew from Mac as they flew down here about her physic abilities and all that. Laura laughs with her a bit. “Oh god thank you Laura, I really needed that.” Anna states as she calms down from her laughter. “Hmm.” She says as she clears her throat to become more serious. “I don’t know, does an aura last ten years?” She questions. “Honestly? I have no idea.” Laura answers and they both begin to laugh again. They both settled down again when Luke showed up. “Uh, what are we laughing about?” He asked, confused as to why they were laughing. “Hmm, you had to be there.” Laura tells him as she moves over to him and wraps her arms around his waist. “Oh, I get it now, girly stuff huh?” He smirks with a smile and a wink. Not wanting to really explain, Laura and Anna chuckle and then pretend that that is exactly what it is.

“Listen, Maria’s checking through all kinds of files on the computer and it’s being a bit slow, so I thought we’d take a break and grab a bite to eat?” Luke suggests. Too hungry really to care about what they were laughing about anyway. Laura and Anna were both hungry also, so the three of them left the building and went to a bar and restaurant that was across the street. While they were their eating, they didn’t discuss Robert or the accident or any of that. It was too heavy of a topic to bring up while eating. So they instead chatted about other things like Luke and Laura’s dealings with Frank Smith and their ten years on the run. They talked about Lucky and Lulu. And Anna enjoyed it all; she loved listening to the stories. But it reminded her a bit of some of her and Robert’s capers. And that made her miss him even more then ever. But she enjoyed listening to the stories so much that she didn’t want them to stop.

Luke looked at his watch and noticed the time. “It’s getting late, the last ferry just left about twenty minutes ago so looks like we’ll have to stay on the Island for the night.” Luke announces to Laura and Anna. “Oh I should have called Mac to tell him what was going on!” Anna bites at herself, feeling bad that she didn’t do that. “Don’t worry darling, it’s all taken care of. I called him while I was with Maria. He and Jax said that if they don’t catch the ferry that they’d rent a private boat to get over here.” Luke informs her. “Oh, thanks Luke.” Anna tells him. Laura smiles at him and gives his hand a squeeze. “You’re so great, you know that?” She whispers to him. “Well we should get back over to the courthouse, maybe Maria will know which hotel on this Island to go for and which to avoid.” Luke states with a wink.

“You know, Maria seems really helpful. More helpful then most clerks I’ve ever had the pleasure or in some cases, displeasure to work with.” Anna questions for a moment, a tad suspicious as to why she was so helpful.

“Oh, I think it’s because she’s just curious you know? She said that the box of files of the boating accident intrigued her.

“You know, that’s another thing, she just instantly jumped to it, call me paranoid but…it’s almost as if…” Anna started but then stopped. “No, will you listen to me? I’m sure it’s nothing!”

“As if she was expecting us?” Laura finishes, realizing what she was saying.

“Oh come on you two, I think she’s just bored and this is something of a break from her usual routine of doldrums. I mean come on; she lives on an Island and works in a courthouse. Can’t be too much happening. She was the only one there when we got there!” Luke gives his opinion.

Anna and Laura laugh a little, agreeing with him on that explanation. After eating they returned to the courthouse building where Maria was happily awaiting their return.

“I think I’ve hit pay dirt!” She tells them

“Really?” Luke asks, seeing her hold a manila envelope.

“Yes, I contacted the morgue and they said that they didn’t have the body, but they did take pictures of it. I’ve got them right here.” She tells them as she hands it to Luke.

“Uh, it’s kind of hard to do DNA on a picture of a body.” Luke informs her.

“Oh I know that, but I think you should look at it, the body part is a torso and leg. But here’s the best part, it’s got a tattoo on it that is..”

“What? A what?” Anna jumps.

“A tattoo, on the chest…it’s an anchor and a chain wrapped around it.” Maria continues.

Anna, Luke and Laura all look at each other and smile. “It’s not him.” Anna whispers, feeling excited and jubilated. She turns to Maria to tell her “Robert didn’t have tattoos, it’s not him.”

“Oh, that’s great.” Maria says, realizing the good news she has just given them. “Well I have more good news.”

“Oh?” All three of them state in unison

“Yes, I talked to this man that works over at the clinic, he’s been there since the place was built so I knew if anyone would know, he would. So I asked him if around 1992 if they got anyone in that was badly injured and it seems that there was one this one guy that was brought here by fishermen that had been badly injured, he was in the clinic for several days fighting infections. Then he was moved to a better facility that was more equipped to take care of him.” Maria tells them. “Right now I’m trying to track down those medical files which should be in the room with the rest of those files, seams they all got mixed together after that storm I told you about Luke.”

“Hey, well we can help locate those files. By the way, know of a good hotel around here?” Luke asks

“The one down by the ferry docks, Poca Isla Inn is the best around really. Expensive thought but very nice, clean. Even thought they’re usually always full, it is the off-season right now so they should have a few rooms available.” Maria tells him.

Once the trio had gotten a room, Anna decided to lay down for a little bit. She was so tired, and now her head was throbbing with pain. Anna feels herself coming apart at the seams. Ever since hearing that this man was not only badly injured but fighting infections, it had made her heart sink to her feet while her stomach threatened to jump up into her throat. Questions twirled so fast in her head that she felt as if the room itself was spinning. When she snapped too, she realized that Luke and Laura were in a conversation about Mac and Jax. “Are they here yet?” Anna asked curiously, having missed most of the conversation. “We’re going down there to wait for them, you wanna come?” Luke asks. “No, I think I’ll stay here and take a nice relaxing bath.” She tells him. Luke was worried about Anna; she had been so quiet since they left the courthouse. “You going to be okay?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. I just need a minute to myself.” She reassures him.

Laura can understand this and she slightly tugs on Luke’s shirt. “Come on Luke, let’s give Anna a little space to breathe now.” Laura hints to him.

“Okay, I get the hint. I’m just worried, that’s all.” He tells them as he gets up.

“I know you are. And thank you for worrying about me.” Anna tells him.

Luke finally gives in; he and Laura leave Anna to be alone in the room. Anna goes into the bathroom and turns on the water to draw herself a bath. She tries to think about when she was in the water, hearing Robert call out her name. *Was he still alive? Did he die from his injuries or did he die from the infections? And if he did die, was he aware of his pain? And if he survived, did he have amnesia? Is that why he never returned home, because of his amnesia?* She asks herself as she swirls the water to check and see if the temp is acceptable. Turning the water off when it’s reached its desired height in the tub. She pulls off her clothes and slowly slips herself into the water.

She leans back and breathes in the steam from the water. It’s a little hotter then she normally likes it, but it feels so very relaxing. She thinks about the aftermath of the explosion. She knows that an older gentleman, a fisherman named Bart had rescued her. He had taken her home with him in Venezuela. She couldn’t remember much from her first days. She does remember being injured pretty badly though and she knew that she had a lot of seizures at first from the head injury. He had gotten some medicine for her that helped with the seizures. But it didn’t help much with her memory. The only thing she could remember really was that her name was Anna and that somehow she knew she was in a lot of danger. But she could remember why or even who she was in danger from. Bart had promised her that he would protect her. She had the sense, she always had the sense that he knew more about her then he ever let on.

She would discover over the years the things he knew, but she never led on that she knew. A part of her missed Bart. He had been her friend for nine years, the only thing in her life that she could trust. Anna closes her eyes and lets the tears roll down her cheeks, down to her chin and then down her neck into the water. As much as she missed Bart, she didn’t miss her life with him. Those nine years of running at a moments notice, having to constantly look over your shoulder. And the worst part was not knowing who she was or where she came from. Although from her accent, they figured she definitely had to have come from Europe. But still, where in Europe was always a question. Nine years of questioning if she had family and did they know that she was alive, did they miss her terribly? Nine years of hell. *Was Robert destined with the same hell?*

With her hands, Anna splashed some hot water onto her face to wipe the salty tear tracks away. She then plugged her nose with her fingers and slides her head under the water to wet her hair. Coming up for breath, she smooth her wet hair out of the way and wiped the tripping water off her face. Anna felt much better now, but she was exhausted and felt like lying down now. So she pulled the plug on the tub and got out. Taking the towel, she dried her self off and then wrapped her wet hair in the towel, setting it on her head. She put on her oversized men’s t-shirt that Luke had given her. She had a few of her own, but they belonged to David and she wanted to get rid of them. So Luke gave her one of his T-shirts. And Anna gave Laura her David’s T-shirts because Luke didn’t fit in them. Anna crawled onto the bed and lay down, she hadn’t expected to actually fall asleep though, but she did.

She was deep in her sleep when Luke and Laura had come back. “Shh, Anna’s asleep.” Laura whispered. Luke nodded, showing her that he realized that. It was pretty late now and even Luke and Laura were exhausted. They had waited for Jax and Mac and when they finally showed up, they had actually almost fell asleep sitting on the bench. They were going to tell Anna that Mac had gotten a room for the two of them, but they didn’t want to wake her. When Mac came to the door, expecting his sister in law to come with him, they both gave him the ‘shh’ signal that told him all. He nodded and went to his room alone.

Shutting the door quietly, he turns to Laura “So, Angel, where do I sleep?” Luke asks, realizing that he wasn’t going to be sleeping with her tonight because they didn’t want to make Anna feel uncomfortable. And Luke sure as hell wasn’t going to sleep in Anna’s bed, not that he minded. Laura did. “How about the couch?” Laura offered, pointing to the couch. “Aw you’re mean.” Luke teased. “Just for now Luke.” Laura whispered. Luke obliged and went over to the couch. “I need a blanket.” He whispered to her. Laura pulled off a blanket from the couch and tossed it to him. “And a pillow would be nice.” He whispers. Laura tosses him a pillow, followed with blowing him a kiss that he pretends to catch. “Goodnight Angel.”
