Subject: the unforgiveable sin of breaking covenant
In reply to: Luke 's message, "Leaving the ja" on 12/07/10 9:11:12pm

Yes, Luke, but what is interesting is that it was still true ten years ago.

When I left I was told that I was leaving Zion and that if I got sick I wouldn't be under God's covering because I would be a covenant breaker.

Fellowship doctrine taught that as part of God's contract with us, if we broke covenant He would be forced to harden our hearts against Him. In other words, part of his judgement would be Him making us hard-hearted towards Him. This sounds perverse, but it meant that He would make us backslide....that it wouldn't just be us backing away from Him.

The second wammy came in the doctrine about repentance, which was that we might wish to come back to God and be forgiven, but his second judgement for having broken covenant would be that we had committed the sin against the Holy Spirit, which would mean that we couldn't be allowed back into the kingdom however much we begged for forgiveness.

I was in no doubt when I left that the church believed that I was leaving God. I struggled with that for years.
