My guess it that was a reaction to JA, not anti-God. After all, I wonder if they had really been "touched" by God personally and how much they just felt restricted by the church. After all, if the JA claims it is God's, the kids are going to trash God's name for what they have to endure as a result. If there is a God, he knows that and won't blame the kids.
