"I knew that I was being prayed against when I was a member and wanted to go to college; my place was dependent on an exam which a brother was coaching me for, but even as he was helping me, Mick told me that he was praying that I would fail. I remember thinking that if Mick was against me passing, I had nothing in me that was stronger than his prayers....but I soon learnt how naive a way of thinking that was.

I gave up my college place....not because of the exam or even because of Mick praying against me, but because the power of his conviction convinced me that I should submit. I always felt that there was little point in the end of resisting whatever decision Mick had made for me.....as emotional blackmail and other pressures would always make resistance very uncomfortable indeed."

Peter, that's exactly the kind of thing I meant!

I WAS superstitious then and I don't feel the same way about a lot of things nowadays. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert or anything (because I'm not!) on the Bible, but I have read it more thoroughly now than I had then, and it seems to me that praying for someone to fail just so that they will return under your control is not really a proper good thing to ask God for. I don't think it was right of Mick to do that to you, Peter. If you are going to pray for people, you should be asking God to bless them and help them to be a blessing to other people, not asking God to make them fail in whatever they are doing so that they can come crawling back into your control.
