About: 4000 years (Adam and Eve should have lived around 40000 BC) it took before Jesus came because they had to be taught:
Personally I find Ezechiel 16 very helpful and loving in getting more understanding about this.
Also the Holy Goast is a teacher, teaching us about things (Titus 2:11: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world).
A teacher does not start with the end of the book. They have to go through a learning process.
It's also like a love relationship: you don't start of with the wedding, first their is a process of getting acquainted.
