Ei kieli varmaan hirveästi erottele ihmisiä, mutta kyllä eri kielillä on erillainen tapa ilmaista tunteita ja ajatuksia. Esim. musta englanti kuulostaa yleensä aina kevyeltä ja hilpeältä. Vaikea mitenkään sisäistää ajatusta, että englantilainen niin sanoessaan on "todella masentunut". Tai että ruotsalainen on todella vihainen sanoessaan "minä vihaan sinua". Ehkä tämä johtuu siitä, että on vierasmaalaisena sen kielen ulkopuolella.

On myös paljon keskusteltu kielen ja ajattelun yhteydestä niin, että jos kieltä rajoitetaan niin rajoitetaanko silloin myös ajattelua. Eli jos kielestä poistetaan kaikki syvää vihaa ilmaisevat käsitteet niin muuttuuko ihmisten ajattutapa jollain lailla erilaiseksi. Esim. Orwellin kirjahan kertoo tästä.
