This same question was discussed in a satsang at an SRF temple. The monk said something like:
-Remember that Yogananda gave this teaching for higher ages yet to come, when people will be better able to practice as he said. Until then, just do the best you can. Achalananda said (about being unable to wait 3 hours after eating till practicing kriya), "Do it (your kriya) ANYWAY!"

Householders can't do it all perfectly, so don't worry about it. Just do what you can.
