Great post! I think just enough vedanta to give one the idea not to cling to any relative experience in kriya is enough. People have to understand what nirvikalpa samadhi is, or rather what it is not. Otherwise it is easy to become a fossil as you posted below. I have seen this in some SRF leaders for sure.
Roy Davis said Yogananda told him to maintain the resolve to "go all the way". Perhaps that is enough.
Other wise it is my impression most "jyanis' are truly doing the "advaita shuffle" out of the ego to claim superior realization or in psychological terms a "spiritual bypass". When I see a man living the oneness in al lways I deem him a real vedantin---a practical vedantin as Vivekananda used to say.
